SR20 settles into new home

Post by greg »

People in the zook club down here have been provided with weekly updates from Christover about a zook build up that's been happening at a club member's place over the past few months.

Some of you may remember a little blue hardtop with the heart of a silvia popping up in some club trip photos last year. The blue swb has been put to rest for now, as a new vehicle now houses the two thousand cc's of raw power.

Anyway, after much waiting it looks like the final assembley of this little monster could be getting started. So i thought i would post up a few of the photos that Christover has taken this week, and perhaps he could provide us with a few of the hi-lites from the big build.

I also really like that Zuk ... cant wait to see it work ..... will be interesting to see how well the 3/4 rear works on it ...

You gotta love those huge shock towers as well and the factory 205's with the body lift and lift springs look great ...

will have to con him into doing a few burnouts on em to shut up all the gooses who say that Zuks are gutless ... :D

The stats i can think of are:

SR20 Engine (Nissan Silvia naturally aspirated)
Siliva Auto
Widetrack Sierra Diffs
RUF OME Springs
3/4 Rear OME Springs
Rancho 9012's all round i think
Chassis / Body shortened behind rear spring hangers
Fuel Cell
Loads of bling

Looking good
Should pose a threat to many out there.
Personally I would like to see the SR20DET sitting in there though.

Young Germo has got one of these engines sitting in the corner (trust me to dob you in.....), I imagine it would fill the engine bay, not to mention the trans tunnel?

Speaking of which, any photo's of the firewall and said tunnel mods? what sort of ratio's used in the auto? what radiators? so many thought's rushing through my dreamy head......would love to see more....

I drove the old blue beast, once and trust me, ya dont want any more power..lifting of front wheels was very very easy on the flat..

radiator is a cut down 3 core from another vehicle??? with custom top and bottom tanks.

it is being engineered with the silly little wheels

tunnel has been widened, firewall fairly stock.

t-case remounted further back, so rear driveshaft be stock swb length, and so a close to standard length jack shaft can be run .

auto ratios standard silvia??? t-case will be standard 1.0 litre. we dont believe any lower will be needed, but he will see how it goes b4 messing with it. it will be engineered with the 1300 t-case, less scarey fer testing.

he is going to be running a track bar, to prevent axle wrap/save springs.

have gone over my spend/upload limit, so I can only ul a few pix.
the pix greg posted are the current state of the build, until sunday. christover

Thanks Christover, look forward to future updates.

For curiosity sake, what's the difference in wheelbase (ie SWBvsLWB)? is it about 5"?

How about the G'box & trans. shifter locations, I imagine that the g'box would use a cable setup such that you would mount the shifter basically above the old hole? was the tunnel just 'flaired' out at the lower sections, or was it entirely removed and had a 'filler' piece added.

Very interesting....based on how he's done the rear shock mounts, I imagine that he's not having alot of barwork (ie if he was using a big cage of sorts I would have thought he'd incorporate a shock mount)?

Cool.

he also running 50mm body lift, and vit discs up front and pintara discs on rear..these have provision for hand brake, giving him better ramp over, with t shaft brake gone.

Lwb is about 10" longer in Wheel Base, plus body is another 10" overhanging the rear wheels.
t case shifter is right next to the original handbrake position. auto shifter is right where ya want it, close to std, yes its a cable/rod shifter..tunnel widened mostly at bottom, with filler pieces added,
there wont be much bar work, part of his aim is to keep it looking normalish on outside. even tho its a legal conversion, he dont want undue attention ;) there will be a removeable cross brace between shock towers

Very much a 'sleeper', I like it

Although, what tyres is he running (off road of course... ;) :D )?

Do you know if a manual box would be any shorter? obviously the auto is preffered, but to be able to stick one of these into a swb the rearend would either have to be trunnion mounted, or pushed back 10" (although then it would justify having BIG tyres to fill the void, like at least 38" units on Hilux diffs with COILS.......

Thanks for the informative response to questions.

The manual box was waaaaay shorter... that's what was behind the sr20 when it was in the previous sierra - a swb 1L hardtop.

I'm not sure exactly how much shorter it is - but i'm sure that the x-fer case didn't have to be moved in the swb.

tyre size off road isnt fully decided, but will be tall and narrow, most likely simex extremes round 34 - 36, but has other thawts, too. gerg is correct, the manual is much shorter, guy is also correct, it was a hybrid of silvia front and skyline rear I think?
rear shaft was standard length on his swb, but was a beefed up yota I think.
in place of a jack shaft was a very short single cv type arrangement. this werked, but vibes were an issue (IMO)
I like sleepers too. christover

note bobtail cutting pattern, designed to keep drain holes and ridges finishing the same as standard, also for weld strength.
radiator uses a thermo on front, saves a lot of room, so engine could move forward to clear firewall nicely.

The body is back on the chassis now for the last time (fingers crossed), engine is sitting in place and the wiring is being completed.

There are some pics to be posted - but these will go up once the server issue is sorted i guess.
