Wheel shudder

Post by Kevin »

I have a '97 Feroza SXII. At about 95kph through to about 105kph I get a bit of steering shudder. I've had the wheel alignment checked, the wheels rotated and balanced etc. Those things have improved it a bit but it hasn't gone away. Does anyone have any suggestions? :?:

What size tyres do you have, what width rims do you have, how high have you lifted it?

It's probably your tyres, my new Coopers do the same thing around 65km/h.

A guy I work with bought a brand new Hyundai Elantra and had the same problem. Hyundai stuffed him around for ages with different places balancing his tyres, doing wheel alignments, checking out the suspension etc, and then finally bit the bullet and replaced his tyres with a different model- problem solved.

The car is pretty bog standard with Nankang 225/70R15 tyres - they were on it when I got it 2 years ago. The only thing I have done to it is new HD shock absorbers but the problem was there before that.

Probably silly question, but are ya hubs lucked in when it happens (not ness. in 4wd). Try locking hubs in or out and checking if still there, may be driveline harmonics. Whats the wheel bearings like??
worth a try??

The Service Guy at the Dealer that I got my Feroza through had a gut full of the mucking around by the beancounters and told the bloke at Bob Janes to replace all the tyres with Dunlop A/T's, Problem GONE!!!!
Happy little feroza now.
The tyres where out of round and the rims where a tad suspect but OK.
regards
