Ignition problem

Post by shiftit »

Hi all any help with this one would be great!

Wife's rangie vogue 1991 3.9 efi
Misfire for a day, goes away, misfire again few weeks later, goes away misfire again worse! Next day takes it to work all fine after work no fire, so dragged it home.

I,v replaced the entire distributor unit,it,s a later 3 pin model hers is 2 pin so I,ve connected pin 1 to + on coil, pin 3 to - on coil and pin 2 to earth but still no spark? So checked the coil again seems to be a very weak spark? Is this normal? Could the coil need replacing too? Any ideas what to do next please?

Have you used a genuine lucas distributor cap and rotor? After-market rotors especially are notorious for causing problems with ignition. I had a very similar problem after I did a major service and replaced the dizzy cap and rotor with cheap aftermarket stuff. A genuine rotor sorted me out.
