Wheel Alignment

hi guys went and got a Wheel Alignment today as i was geting bump steer any way the guy was saying that the rear diff is over to the left and cant do caster untill the back diff is moved back over but looking at it its ok and the measurments are the same both sides but on paper its says different

Car is a FJ40 SOA 35's

I wouldn't have thought castor would be affected by the rear diff and while I can understand them not being able to sort alignment between diffs I don't understand why the could not get close then sort toe in/out??

nope they didnt adjusted anything and most of the tow in would be a bent steering :D

x2..... your toe in should be about 4 or so mm.... at 23.8 the tyres will be worn out by the time you get home... :) :)

so what exactly did they do if they didnt do a caster sweep to even check the caster , didnt correct the toe in wtf is that all about
so they have effectively left it just as rooted as when it drove in without even checking the caster to give an accurate diagnosis .

fix the toe issue then take it elsewhere for an alignment .

yep tyres are gone but at the toe in it has i can accelarate it out of the death wobble but at 4 or so mm i cant

Vehicle specs? Have you tried wedges to see if they help?

1977 FJ40 SWB rear diff moved back 150mm SOA 35x13.5 tyres it has 4 degree on a knuckle turn and 3 degree wedges and with or with out the wedges it drove like puss it should be +7 degree when i got the car it was -5 degree caster

So castor is up the crapper? Can you re do the rotated knuckles to the correct castor? Also what bushes? I found poly bushes caused the wobble in my 73, new ones don't last at all, OE rubber ones were much better

they are lying , 23.8mm of toe in would make it drive crap as well .

You want about 1mm total toe in. If the diff is located on the rear springs properly and it's still not straight, one of your chassis rails might be back.

ok i took the toe out my self drive heaps better

It appears wheel alignment outfits are dodgy the world over. I've had new tyres chewed out 15,000km from a wheel alignment, I've had one tell me to not be concerned about 7mm rear axle toe (i.e. bent casing). I've even had one tell me they can adjust that.

Thankfully a mate bought a tyre shop with alignment gear. I now drive 500km to get the job done right or use tape measures and string myself.

Yeah, no. But it's a city I need to visit occasionally anyway. Good thing I don't need wheel alignments that often.
