Jimny power upgrade

Post by zukiny »

Hi,
Greetings from Singapore.

Been reading all Zuki related posts deligently but need some feedback on my Jimny.

Mines' an auto Sohc G13BB .....you guys call them series 1 Jimny.

Have done all the bolt on performance mods eg.K&N filter, exhaust headers, straight thru back box,cat removed,FSE fuel pressure regulator..etc.

Am running Marshalls MT 30x9.50-15 or Cooper STT 31x10.5-15.

Can pull 110-125 km/hr on level black top at 3500rpm. but am looking for more low end grunt.

Looking at Suzisport Int'l Cam upgrade ...it's the same cam for the Sohc Vitara 1.6 but do not have specs so am not sure 'bout the power band....?

Also have a Vitara donoe engine laying in the garage but need advice on whether it'll mate to my auto box or do I need to fabricate an adaptor plate..??

Been off-roading with my Jimny for 3½ years and I do get to like it quite a bit since ''we'' have been thru some very tight spots but as always there is the quest for more power..!!

Thanks

Hey Zukiny

I have no relevant information on what you are asking but I will "pad" so that people get a chance to read it before it's lost in the millionth page. Their is a few guys with jimny's on this site i'm sure they will be able to help you.

So do you have any pic's of your rig?

Many Thanks.....

Me Wse and Squik,

Thanks.......I learned a new term and move........"pad"

Yep I'm familiar with Kap but as Squik knows most of my stuff is from Apio (Japan) .

So far no after-market supplier for engine parts other than exhaust headers and cat-back systems ......straight thru boxes.

Yesterday I did some simple mods on my throttle body.....enlarged and tapered the bore on the ''intake manifold'' side and similarly tapered the intake manifold where it mates with the throttle body.

Response seems crispier.....maybe it's psychological..!!

Might go for one of those piggy-back ECU mods but need one that has a default function just in case the electronics acts up whilst I'm off-roading in the Rainforests..

I guess I'll have to wait it out till there are sufficient Jimnys' running around out there before someone finds it worth his while to come up with more serious engine performance upgrades.

I did post some pix of my rig on past threads .........It's the thread with Jase's Jimny.

Go the cam. I have one in my sierra and it pulls harder through the rev range after.

The G13BB is the same block as the Sierra as I understand. But has the 16 V SOHC. and EFI. So I am sure you will need an adaptor to fit Vitara stuff, unless your auto has a removeable bell that acts as an adaptor.
I am interested, what cam belt does it use? Width etc.?
I am waiting for some of those motors to start showing up in the yards.

hi zukiny,
do you really think the 80 cv of your Jimny are not enough to perform well off road?
In my opinion, you just need to make your engine rev as it used to do with stock tyres and, in this case, gearing is the solution.
if you are familiar with apio, you could buy their planetary gears, i used it on my jimny for a while and it works great offroad.
or if you need to gear down both high and low range, you could have a look at the "for sale" section.

Re:- Reground cam & Reworked head

Post by zukiny »

Trailjimny,
Got my Jimny fitted out with a reground cam from US and a reworked head ( DIY)

Seat of the pants feel on the road is that it pulls more willingly all the way to the redline at 6500rpm.

Mine is an auto and now kickdowns are quiker and the power comes on more quickly.

Machined my own reduction gears too.

Yours are 36/22 to give 1.63 or about 23% reduction but I did mine 35/23 for 15% reduction so with the 30x9.50-15 I'm just about back on original gearing.

In the mud I don't need too low gears but more rpms.

Have not installed the Trfs. case so I can know if the cam and head is really improving my performance .

Will install the ''new'' t-case next week.

I've a complete G13BB engine from a mate who bought a new Jimny with the M13A DOHC engine. So now there is 2 of everything from Axles to gear box,t-case stc.

Tried chipping the ECM but no luck so far as the CEL comes on and it'll not start..??!!

My aim is to build the Jimny till it's on par with the Vitara G16B .....I'm getting close.

On the highway I'll say that the Jimny is slightly ahead.

Happy wheelin............

hey zukiny,
it's good to hear from you.
if you need more hp and you have a spare ecm, you could ship it at this guys
http://www.digitaltuning.ch/english/index.html
and they will do the trick (+ 10 hp).
but again, once you will have your new gears fitted in the t.case, i bet you won't need more power.
keep us informed on your progress...
