winch wireless remote control
Been looking at this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-Winch-Wi ... 19cc18f605" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone have any experience with using a wireless remote and are they worth the hassle?
Pro's and con's?
Or would it be better to have it wired to the centre console for the driver to operate there?
The old plug in cable is a bit of a pain, especially when its buried under other gear when you need it.

Re: winch wireless remote control
I have found wireless remotest tend to have a delay on control
Ie, winch in, release button, winch runs a second of two longer.
I added in cab winch controls a while ago and like it, but I think you still need to have external control options too.

Re: winch wireless remote control
I have in cab controls and have been looking at getting a wireless remote just for when I'm spooling the rope back on ( I don't trust my missus not to cut my fingers off ) I have seen one of those units in action and it seemed decent.
Wtb, 105 series rear tyre carrier, alloys and tyres.
Re: winch wireless remote control
^^^^Hahaha
I've had one before, the remote didn't last long and just stopped working.

X2 for the delay as well. although you get used to it. I always wondered how many different frequencies they used on the remotes and what the chances are of your mate getting the same remote? also I think (having not used it for years and cant quite remember) that my UHF or something (when transmitting) stopped the winch.

Re: winch wireless remote control
Yeah good point.
I guess at the $$ it could be worth having it as an extra, but think I will add the cab control too....I like my fingers the way they are.
Thanks for the feedback ppls
cheers

Re: winch wireless remote control
Why not just in cab controls and have controls on the bullbar or grill?

I Dont like controls outside the car that 'others' can use to shorten your vehicle.sprungupcruiser wrote:Why not just in cab controls and have controls on the bullbar or grill?
Re: winch wireless remote control
Isolator under the bonnet would stop that.

Re: winch wireless remote control
I have wireless remote, have had more problems with it than its worth.
The worst time for it to fail was when an old feller rolled his ute down the road from where i was staying last Anzac Day, i had the rope tied to his ute and then the remote wouldnt work, great big Patrol with all the fruit, and a wireless winch controller brang it to its knees. Ended up snatching it out of the ditch and then snatching it on to its wheels. Lots more damage during the snatching. Unreal. Wouldnt buy another one for quids.

Thanks for the info, looks like hard wire to console is the go, and keep the original plug in lead for the outside work

Re: winch wireless remote control
I put the same setup on my semi tipper so i didnt have to keep walking back and forth from the cab when tipping into augers. Done 3000t into our own silos using this, so prob 100 loads. Never had a problem with it. control box is mounted under the sleeper and exposed to the elements, inc alot of vibration and even more dust.
Works a treat, never misses a beat. will never operate a tipper without using the remote setup. this is the one i bought.

Re: winch wireless remote control
I love my remote. Pulling out palm trees, laying the rope, making sure its all going swimmingly all on my lonesome..... and if it dies there's always the plug in controller. It hasn't died yet though.
Re: winch wireless remote control
I installed a wireless controller from Tigerz11 at the same time as installing a single solenoid.
Best winch mod ever. I can still control the winch when at the end of the winch cable 30m away.
It has worked faultlessly every time I have used it. (Several dozen times)
They also enable you to be out of the way when winching instead of being tethered to a 3m cable. If it ever fails then I can still plug in the hand controller.
