So my head gaskets finally let go on my trusty 4runner (3VZE V6) , they've been leaking oil for nearly 12 months now (tappet covers as well as head gaskets) and on the weekend the radiater coolant started going from green to brown... SO i've ripped the heads off and sent them off for a machine before installing new gaskets and getting her back on the road.
MY thought is to take advantage of the fact that i have the heads off and install some hurricane extractors to reduce heat in the engine bay and improve performance, economy etc at the same time.
NOW Here is my question. Where is the best place for the crossover?
I've seen them above and below the front drive shaft and even seen one that winds back behind the transfer case before joining up.
I plan to do a SAS conversion in the future and realise that running the exhaust around the drive shaft now will only require modification later on, so am i wise to run it behind the gearbox/tfr case or will this create issues as well as i have been told that the o2 sensor needs to be hot to read correctly meaning that it will run only on the left exhuast bank (passenger side). Will this in itself create issues, the guy at the exhaust shop doesnt seem to think so but i dont want to have to muck about with it twice... You can RE-Design a hundred times, but fitting once would be nice!
The other thing is that because the exhuast would join so far back (behind gearbox theory) i would need to run 2 cat converters to ensure that they are working properly and not just blocking up...

Not sure aboput crossover or exhaust placement by my mate is selling a complete performance exhaust for a 3vz in newcastle.

Don't waste your money, the gains are minimal and not worth the costs.
I ran Hurricanes and a hi flow 2 1/2" system on mine, all it really did was make a louder noise.

Not looking for huge gains... Mostly an insurance policy against heat around the back of the heads in the engine. Exhaust needs replacing at present anyways, figured the extra for extractors were worth it while I was at it.
