OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
just an update of the proposed plans for this event in 2012.
we have modified the format a little to give you guys more seat time and to give the spectators more action .
this year you will have 4 hrs to do as many laps as you can . it will be split into 2 hr sections with extreme mod starting at 8am and running to 10am . buggy truggy start 10.30 till 12.30 and then the same again . i think you get the picture .
your laps will still be timed but it means the most laps wins . this way you wont have to wait 4 hrs to have a drive and it will give you 2 hrs to do any repairs and have a break before your next run . this way we can hopefully keep more vehicles running and the spectators will have more to watch .
there wont be an allotted time for a pit stop it will be up to you and how long you stop for .
we are planning a few minor track changes to allow easier access for the spectators and better viewing spots . there will be some more speed sections and the track could be a bit longer to allow more vehicles to enter .
we are still undecided as what to do with the special stages . one suggestion was to have the hill drags but run both classes under lights sat night and run cals sunday morning ?
we plan on running 2 pre run days during the year where the park will be shut down for a few hrs to allow you to test and tune .
please post up any ideas as to what you want for this event and we will try to put it all together .
cheers brett
EDIT: Event info as requested below
Offroad Boss King of the Rim - will be held 16, 17 & 18th November 2012. The main competition day is Saturday 17 November.
Following the huge popularity of last years event from both competitors and spectators alike, Scenic Rim Adventure Park have teamed up with competition coordinators Brett, Sandy and Mitch Thorpe, in conjunction with our sponsor Offroad Boss, laying down plans to make the event bigger and better in every way for 2012.
This year will see a slight format change, to give competitors even more driving time, and more action for spectators. Teams will have 4 hrs to do as many laps as they can. This will be split into two, 2 hour sections, with Extreme Mod class starting at 8am and running through to 10am. The buggy/truggy class starts at 10.30am through till 12.30pm, a break for lunch, and then re run both classed again through the afternoon. The winner’s will be those with the most amount of laps accumulated. What this means is more cars on track for the spectators, and the fastest cars running the full 4 hours, and will give teams a chance to fix breakages in between runs, and continue to the end. There will be no time allotted for pit stops this year, so any breakages will have to be fixed in race time, unless they can be managed until the end of the 2 hour stint.
The spectator area will be increased, with more obsticals, and the track will be made longer, to allow more cars on track at once. A win win for the spectators.
There are two planned pre-run days (date’s not confirmed), for which the park will be shut down to allow for full speed pre-running. Spectators are invited to attend, but will be restricted to viewing area’s whilst the park is shut down. Dates will be announced once confirmed on the Offroad Boss website, Scenic Rim website, and social media sites like outerlimits4x4.

Sounds awesome Brett, we're getting excited already. What ever way you decide to go we're in!
Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
Sounds like the new format could work really well! It could make it Anyones to win with people who struggle making up time on the second run and visa versa!
With lengthening Lap times would it mean more harder sections of track thrown in or just a blast along a fenceline with a few turns thrown in to spread the field out on the slower sections?
It sounds like the dates of our local 3 car event have been changed so hopefully there's a bigger gap between events allowing some cq rigs a chance to head down!

Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
hey russell
i think it was around 14 km . i went for a drive along the fence line over newyears and there are some good flowing high speed sections . nothing hard but it just makes the laps longer and more fun to drive .
conserving the car and being consistant would be the key.

Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
With a small chance this question may start another drawn out discussion on the topic,
has there been any decision made on the shunting topic?
Possibly some "feel free to nudge me" stickers for the cars who don't mind it?
And have the blockage sections from last comp been looked at with the possibility of widening them? If it doesn't make the lines to easy that is!
Ok I'll shut up with the questions now!

Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
yes these issues have been addressed the track will be modified to suit more open racing .
as for bumping we dont encourage it but if you sound your horn and the person in front doesnt get out of your way to let you past then expect a bump .
there were only two bumps that i know of last year so most of the guys listened and got out of the way of the faster car.

Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
new format sounds great! It will definitely slow things down heaps. A smart driver will 'stroll' around at 60-80% pace for the whole session without any breakages and will most like be one of the only few still running at the end and would probably be one of the podium finishers.... But for the foolhardy that push even just a little bit, the time spent in the pits will effectively write off there day. So if you break anytime at all you may as well put it back on the trailer?

Aaron was held up pretty much every lap but a particuar car who either didnt hear the horn sounding nor see Aaron in any mirrors & only moved when an official told him to, Aaron being the softie that he is just put up with it.
If it was me, i would have tapped him.

So maybe a bonus (of sorts) would encourage a little "foolhardy" behavior... Fastest lap???A smart driver will 'stroll' around at 60-80% pace for the whole session without any breakages and will most like be one of the only few still running at the end and would probably be one of the podium finishers.... For the spectators - of course.
Sounds great, can't wait to see who wraps their POS around one of the trees up the top... I love that bit of track, just can't help but feed in some RPM's.

Aaron can't be to soft as you are having a baby! we got slowed down by a few cars on the ridge but they all moved when they could every one needs to keep there UHF on, loud and have car numbers viable on rear so you can call them if needed.

Re: OFFROAD BOSS KING OF THE RIM 2012
thats not a bad idea russell to have car numbers visable from the back and if everyone has a cb so you can tell them to move out the way .
yeah i think you have to do something to stir aaron up a bit next time linda . thats what bar work is for.
you should have told me and i would have had a word to whoever it was getting in your way .

From what saw last year, yes to finish first, first you have to finish. But with the like of Chris in the diesel shop Patrol, to finish first you also have to be able to drive very fast, the whole time.

how would the little suzuki's survive this event?, I've only spectated the first king of the rim so it's a big unknown for me, but mike (11_evl) gave it a good rap and was commenting the tracks were ok for suzuki's and my suzuki sands a little bit bigger than his orange one. If the dates line up with up work I'd be keen to try, dying to get some more events under my belt.
