Anyone know how I can get around this?
Cheers

Re: Nk 3.5 pajero removal of seized tbelt crank pulley
Have you tried using a long breaker bar, resting it on or close to the chassis, then quick flick of the key using the starter to crack the bolt ??

Not sure if you are having trouble with the nut or with the pulley itself. Either way, there was a fairly good coverage of both on http://www.pajeroclub.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; some time back. If it is the pulley itself, I would soak the shaft in penetrene or WD40 overnight, then apply a gas torch to it. Not easy to get at, and you have to try to heat the pulley, not the shaft.
If it is the nut, and you have a manual transmission, select 5th gear, get someone to put their foot on the brake and pull away. Normal screw direction (not LH thread). If that fails, as someone else said, set it up, get clear and touch the starter. I did this accidentally with my wife's Magna - I forgot to take the socket off the nut. I hit the starter to move the engine around to a better place but the engine fired, leaving me with the nut undone. If you have an automatic, you have to remove the starter and insert a screwdriver into the ring gear and thereby jam the engine.

breaker bar, long extetension ( long enough to get above the bonnet line) and a few good hard whacks with the 4 Lb dead blow hammer ... works every time for me .. ( about 5 times now )

I think you are talking about the pulley. So you definately need a suitable size 3 jaw puller. Levering it will absolutely f**k something.
98 GU Patrol. 4.0L Barra, BF engine. 3" Lift. 85% Marks reduction Gears. 35x12.5x15 Maxxis Bighorns, 3" Zaust.

"Levering it will absolutely f**k something."
Correct - behind the pulley is a cam plate for the cranshaft position sensor. If you lever away, chances are that you will bend the lugs. A puller is the only way to safely do it. Anyway, there is hardly anything against which you can lever - it is a real b-tch.

Make sure you fit a new washer, key and bolt when you put it back together. Mitsubishi recommend it.
Re: Nk 3.5 pajero removal of seized tbelt crank pulley
More on the refitting of the pulley: Make sure that it is TIGHT. From memory, MMA specify about 200 nM of torque, which is well above the range of most common sized torque wrenches. I do it up damned tight. If you have an automatic, you will have to remove teh starter motor and jam something into the starter ring gear. If a manual, get someone to put their foot hard on the brakes and engage 5th gear and tighten it up. If you don't, the pulley can come loose and flog around on the shaft and ruin it. Then you are talking dollars.
