Post by Barney7779 »

I need a set for my POS

does anybody know what models they came out in

what would the axle code be on the compliance plate

how strong are they most of my 4x4ing is bouncing round paddocks lookin for pigs  and the occasional weekend of playing on the rough stuff

all help is greatly appreciated and many thanx in advance

im staying with 5.29s for now, they come out of a hiace van , not sure on the exact model, they seem to be getting hard to find these days lots of ppl buying them for thier luxs and busting them, best places to call are commercial wreckers that are wrecking hiace vans.

As for strenght they seem to be pretty strong, i have given them a good flogging with 32's and the 2.8d, but if you were running 35s+ and a v8 im sure youd chew them out pretty quick.

the axle code for 5.29 8" is G16* ; G mean 8", 16 is 5.29, * will be 2 for a 2 pinion open diff, 4 for a 4 pinion or locker, 5 for a limited slip.

in my opinion the 4.88 gears are a better option, they are significantly stronger with 39/8 teeth, the 5.29's have 37/7 and the tiny pinion is very easy to blow teeth off if you're not mechanically sympathetic.

Thanx guys

the only reason i wanted to get them was to try and pick up the revs alittle cause the pus 3y is gutless when it comes to the hills  and very noticeable when im loaded up with gear for a week away shooting

plus when i go away i run 32/9.50 simex ET2's and even unloaded with the ET2's on its a bucket off :bad-words:

Oh well guess i will have to pull my finger out and do the SR20 coversion and just put up with the 4.88

if you currently have 4.88's:

( (4.875-5.286)/4.875 ) * 100 = -8.43%

3200rpm -8.43% = 2930rpm

5.29's and 35's i could 110 below boost, surely a 2.8 would hold 110.
