Hey guys I need some advice on my gearing options for my gu with the h260 rear diff.
Engine is a blown 304 V8 in a gu running 33's with 4.1 diffs and while away on hols doing some highway driving loaded with gear towing a trailer and beach work etc I reckon I could quite easily drop to 3.9's as my truck never even raised a sweat! And the lower revs would help with highway economy!
On the highway I'm doing 100km/h@ 2300 and 110km/h is all but 2500rpm. Now iv asked around and I'm under the impression that the only ratios available for the h260 is 4.3 and 4.1?! I asked Nizzbits on the patrol forum and there isn't a part number for them, but we all know how random Nissan is with there gearing and diffs in different model patrols and I was hoping there was someone out there who has some 3.9's from a h260!

I'm not to keen on swapping complete diffs to the h233, so other then that il wait till my rubber is up for renewal and get some 35's!
My truck is basically a wknd truck which doesn't tow anything apart when I go away or get some building/ garden supply's every now and then.
I do like the look of 35's on a 2-3 inch lift which I have but I'd say il borrow mates set just to see the difference in handling/ braking etc
Any help would be great!

Hey mate I'm also interested in doing similar as I have a h260 behind a diesel v8. I'm running 35s but still feel I could push better gearing easily as it gets along well. I haven't had much luck in searching for 3.9s for the h260. I no Brunswick do 3.9s in some of there conversions but guessing there all the smaller diffs. I have found a few posts from ppl who have fitted marks adspters 5th gear upgrade and were happy with it. It only changes 5th obviously so u retain ur low range gearing. It's a bit pricey but probably comparable to buying diff gears and swapping. Also apparently u can swap them out buy removing transfer and doing it in vehicle. Hope this helps.

What ratios did the 4.5 come with? that would be your only choice of something coming with a 3.9s. 4.8s do have 3.5s but thats too high for you.

At the end of the day getting a h233 would be a better option. The pinion in the 260 is the same size as the 233 so no stronger. Also the h260 is 1 giant land anchor!!

Dan, I didn't even think of calling Brunswick.. But what ever they have I assume it's pretty pricey.. Il giv them a call and see what they can do! As for 35's does your truck feel boggy/sloppy running them or you can't really tell the difference!?

Turbo gu,sorry should have stated that my truck was originally a tb45. Does anyone know what the auto tb45 had for gearing and whether they had a h260? Also not trying to sound lazy or a tight ass but I'm sort of after the easiest/cheapest option. Hence trying to find some 3.9's of upgrade tyres once mine have had it. As for the h260 being a land anchor I see you point but it doesn't really affect me as I don't do rock work and having 35's would help that out anyway. Also if I did get some 3.5 's from a tb48 assuming its a h260 what would that lower my revs to at an estimate? 100km/h at maybe 1900rpm?
Also at a estimate 3.9's would give me about 2100rpm at 100km/h wouldn't they!?

I just purchased genuine 4.6's out of a 2.8L GU so once I get them put into my tb45e I'll have my stock centers for sale
I was thinking approx $1000.00 for both F&R centers.

Ogjon, what ratio's are the ones you are selling and are they def out of a h260?! Il pm ya on the price if they are suitable!

Just spoke to Brunswick and marks, Brunswick fit 3.9 to all there 233 diffs and if a patrol comes in with a 260 they swap it for a 233 then fit the 3.9's

Marks 5th gear overdrive is pricey at 1300 odd and it lowers 5th by 15% which would work out to be about 2000rpm @100km/h but then you have a massive gap from 4-5 gear.. I should have said also that I would like an overall taller gear set up ie 1st through to 5th! In town driving I'm blowing through the gears to quick! Lol

Simcoe, I barely noticed the onroad difference between 33s and 35s on my car but it's only running 3" lift so not overly high. I think the easiest/cheapest option would be swap/sell ur tires and get 35s. I had 33s and ended up swapping with a mate who had 35s and was getting hassled by the po-po as he was a p-plater. As for the 3.5s I think it might be a little too low although someone with experience could correct me?

For those calling them a land anchor, I have more ground clearance with a shaved H260 than I did stock H233b

the rear diffs a big boy made of steel!,which like i said sand/mud/trails are not a bother with it!! if i hit something well who cares..

im not interested in shaving it to gain 40mm....

at the end of the day it looks like i'l wait till my 33's are due for renewal and get some 35's.
the swapping of complete diffs i have no time for.

i have a 99model 4.5 auto which has the h233 front and back and has 3.9 gears..

TB45 manual came with the H260, auto came with the H233; one with the 4.11 r&p and the other with 3.9, respectively

And BTW, the H260 is a 260mm dia and the H233 a 233mm, they are easy to tell apart. Just look at your front diff, if it is the same size as your rear, then your rear is a H233; again, if an auto it should be a H233 rear diff.

One last thing, since someone mentioned, yes you can get all the way up to 4.88 on both the H260 and H233, but they are Italian made and haven't heard good things about them yet. In the case of the H260, the 4.625 are also Italian made -- Nissan only went 4.37 on the PU. I run 38.5" boggers so needed greater ratios, but was limited for availability, so if I wanted to stay Nissan, had to swap the H260 for a H233 with the 4.625. Figured better safe than sorry. As I said, did not get any positive feedback on the Italians...

Also, you could get Marks Adaptors a ring, they may know something I dont, since they sell the stuff...

Now, just out of couriosity... Is 200rpm really worth all that trouble? Think it will save you all that much in gas? I ask because i know the distances you drive "down under" are not to be compared, so I'm sure it is a numbers and proportions thing, but I figured I ask...

I have a H260 with genuine nissan 4.6 ratio in my MK ute
dunno whether it is 4.625 like the GQ/GU H233B or 4.636 like the Navara H233B i have in the rear of my GU

[BTW ... can't notice anything different with the 4.625 in the front and 4.636 in the rear of my GU]

Well who knew, but Im still certain Nissan doesnt make higher than 4.37 for H260, and that is also a rear only diff. Could you help me out here and give me the Trans code on your MK (its on the VIN plate on your engine bay)? It should read HH46 0r HG46
I also have to take into consideration that you guys get models down there that we dont... Thanks for the feedback

Yeap, GU´s are 2" (50mm) longer (or wider :P ) than GQ's. Found that out the hard way too :lol:

One more thing, keep in mind that when on 35´s, you will be moving 13% faster than your speedometer is reading ;) and will also loosen up your shifting

By loosening up your shifting do you mean the way the clutch takes up and transfers power to the wheels? Sorry to sound dumb...
Also with the 13% shouldn't that be 6-7%. Only being when I first bought my truck with the standed tires It said 100km/h was 2300. Checked with gps and I was only doing 95 ish. Once the 33 were put on it read a true 100-101km/ h at 2300rpm.
So if I went 35's that extra 6-7% would equal to roughly 100km/h on the tacho to be a true 107ish km/h.
Easy answer would be if someone could do a road test who have 4.1s and a tb45 with 35's :-)
as isn't the diesel gearing different to the petty?!

Sorry for not explaining myself :cry: , but yes, that's it.

What I meant was: Since your truck from factory comes with (round #) 31" tires and you are going up to 35" (ignoring what you pointed out about the readings not being accurate and presumming the instrument readings were correct), that accounts for a 12.9% increase on diameter/circumference; therefore, for every turn of the wheel, you will be actually displacing 13% more distance over stock. Because of this, you will be actually doing 113kms at 2300rpm; however, your truck will feel 13% slower vs stock on "take off", since you'll be 13% undergeared from stock, which will probably be a good thing for you, considering that you are running a V8.
Now, if you go up tu 35" and you do the 3.9 r&p mod, then you`ll be 18% undergeared fron stock (12.9% increase on tire size + 5% decrease on ratio), which would probably be what you are looking for.
Gearings are different between TD42 and TB45, that is correct. TD42 are actualy "slower" for more torque

Cheers JoseM, very informative!

I don't think I will do both 3.9 and 35's at the moment as that could feel like quite a step down in power..
First step for me will definitely be borrow some 35's for a wknd and take them for a whirl and check out the difference! (anyone keen to lend a set over the wknd for some grog? ;-) ) I'm in newcaslte!

Some blokes say they feel no difference with 35's and other do.. Id say that would depend on front end condition of truck!?
I have been looking at 35's and they don't seem to make any in a 35" 11.5"r15 they are all 12.5 wide..I wouldn't mode going 1 inch narrower if I go 2 inches taller.

Well who knew, but Im still certain Nissan doesnt make higher than 4.37 for H260, and that is also a rear only diff. Could you help me out here and give me the Trans code on your MK (its on the VIN plate on your engine bay)? It should read HH46 0r HG46

Cool! We dont even show VIN's that start with that coding. For japanese made vehicles we only show VIN's starting with JN#.
Gonna chk if we got (in the past) vehicles from Kyushyu Plant at all...
If you haven't made any mods, both your front and rear should be 4.625.
