I need some help.
I have a 2003 MY04 LS Challenger and the auto called it quits again. Short story I think the last rebuild was dodgy and just don't want to go down that route again.
So question is how hard would a conversion be? I can swing spanners easy and can get some mates to help. I don't see it being a weekend thing either.
Plan is to buy a wreck or a cheap high milage Challenger use what I need get things checked out and replaced as necessary and put the rest in the shed for spares.
I'm guessing it should all bolt in easy enough.
I am worried about the electrical side of things though. Do I need to just do a computer swap, trick the original computer to think its in neutral or is it a wiring harness swap?
(PS 98-2000 model Pajero Donner has entered my head as well with its super select transfer and 3.5l later on when my engine calls it quits.)

Have you looked at Tritons as a donor vehicle? The Challenger is reportedly a Triton wagon, so the trans & mounts could drop in pretty easily.

there is a manual challenger on ebay at the moment that is being wrecked he has the gearbox and everything listed

Can that different trans tunnel. Need an angle grinder ti cut floor up to suit shifters.

I did this conversion on my 03 triton V6 recently, should be pretty similar
had the box, transfer, drive shafts & flywheel sitting in my shed from a 99 triton, got a clutch pedal with master cylinder, clutch line & slave cylinder from the wreckers for 20 bucks
bought a new clutch kit, approx 300 bucks
I had to holesaw the main hole, & drill the two bolt holes for the pedal assembly to fit, the internal reinforcement for the pedal assembly is there, they just didn't press the holes out, also the footrest gets in the way a little of the clutch pedal, you can work it out
brake pedal is too big, you can swap it out, I just cut it down with the angle grinder
I had to cut a bigger hole in the tunnel for the manual shifter configuration, if you look at the lines in the sound deadening crap under the carpet on the tunnel it shows where to cut
the gearbox cross member is the same, it just gets shifted to the next set of holes, but the gusset brace/transfer bash plate for the cross member is different, best off getting one from the wreckers
I also had to get a different transfer case mount from the wreckers to suit
I had my mechanic do the actual case swap, as I couldn't be bothered lying on the floor doing it, I can't remember whether the drive shafts were needed or not.
I did not change the loom or computer, I put the inhibitor switch into neutral and left it there, and tapped in the reverse and 4wd switches
not the biggest job, it is something you can do from home in a day easy, I'm just a little lazy these days
2 months and 20,000 kays since the conversion and all good so far
