Re: 80 series hi steer?
that little dot is nasty when it comes to castings. the bits you cant see are the bigger problem
the rust isnt a strucural issue as ive said you buy rusty shit from a steel merchant its downgraded...machined parts are no different. that is not the issue here it just highlighted the lack of care.
Cranky the notch isnt supposed to be there... its a maching problem. a bit like where they have run the tool into the calliper mounting tabs on the set here, again lack of care... same as the weld in bungs that have only been half skimmed as they wernt setup in the lathe correctly.
and as for being flat... try holding your ruler the other way..... i can see the same machining on all the photos... have a look at your toyota ones and compare on what it should look like....
thanks for the photos guys it highlights mine arnt a one off.
Billy do you have plans for better castings ?

No one has ever broken 1. Comp and trail rigs in the us.
Re: 80 series hi steer?
sorry grant, i didn't notice your email until today.
believe it or not, those knuckles didn't leave here with that rust on them. cast iron rusts a lot faster and easier than steel, but nonetheless i will be coating them with oil before shipping them overseas in the future. sorry about that. as for the rest of it, porosity is inevitable in castings, it's the larger holes that present structural problems and there are no large holes here. i wish there was 0% porosity but that's impossible. the foundry that casts these has been in business for almost 100 years and makes castings of several other knuckles as well as high end engine components. i trust them and they stand behind their castings. for the machine work, i have to say that i'm baffled to have not noticed the groove in the caliper tab. that is unacceptible and i'm chalking this up to a lesson learned in inspecting better before i ship parts. you will recieve a brand new set of knuckles as soon as the next batch is done, probably in 3 weeks. i hope you like the new ones better than the ones you opened up last time.
once again,. i am sorry for your bad experience and i am hoping to turn this around for you.
cheers, -billy

Re: 80 series hi steer?
Billy mate, full credit to you. My set has only minor surface rust through post (as you can see in the pic). It didnt worry me in the slightest. Ive follow your high steers from the start for years, wishing and hoping they wherent all talk and they finally came through and made it to aus. They are the strongest on the market and will only get better Im sure. There are a few mods you can do at the factory to make them perfect.....
Every set you have sent me where extremely well built. I only found pin holes in 1 of my set and Im am sure it will not affect the strength in the slightest, let alone bin them. Full credit to you mate and thanks for bringing these to aus!

Re: 80 series hi steer?
Go back under your rock. Ive watched and follow these high steers from the start and a so glad they made it to aus.
If they where breaking or any other problems. I would be up in arms. A few pin holes and some rust doesnt warrant telling everyone not to use these as they are unsafe.
