You can get off the shelf 4.7 crawler gears for the lux Tcase. Look around for a 92 or 93 onwards Diff centers as they have a bigger stronger pinion bearing. I use my hilux fe every day use. With a turbo 2.8 diesel with 5.29 diffs and twin lockers. The axles And Cvs handled 33s not a issue bolted up 35" mudzillas( car built for mud) blew both front Cvs in the 1 trip in the mud? Gotta buy LONGFIELDS. All my help from a lux owner
93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way

Sticking to suzuki gear you also have the 6.5 transfer gears in a nice tight little package that you cant get in anything toyota. Have a look at what Rhett and Micheal have dont in there zooks.
All in all it just means less fab work.
If you want a little newer engine look in to the later model Balino twin coil pack engine. Takes a little more wire work but runs a treat. If yoour gearing is good enough 90ishKW is more then enough with how light the rig is going to be.
Rhetts zook is a fire breathing turbo charged Nitro filled LIGHT Weight fire cracker. Its a stock 1.3 engine with a old Mazda 121 fuel injection system. Best thing being if he blows the engine they can be replaced for like $100 shoot you could bring a spare anywere you go. Have a look at what you can build if you think light and keep it zook. He is running lux diffs sierra transfer (6.5 gears) 1.3 engine injected and nos.

whoa, my name has been mentioned a lot so i thought id better chime in. I only have a front winch, it is useful for climbs, i left room for a rear winch but never put in, as for motors, you can't beat a suzuki motor wor reilabily and weight. sr20s are not light, bout 130ish kgs, not much less than a crummy donk.
As for manual vs auto, yer you can do it with a cog shifter, but im worn out after a days wheelen. i am probly even gunna fit an auto in mine one day.
Rear steer easy enough to fit if you leave the room for it. And not that $$$. you should be able to do it for less than 2k with longs if you have front hydro already.
but as said previously, seat time is the most important thing in any comp car.

if you want a crawler go the auto just make sure all the gearing is right and you have a good cooler for it. only my 2c
I reckon the auto is one of the best things in my truck. makes a bad driver look good - well better anyway

Thanks all for the comments. Things have sort of come to a stand still ATM, I'm at work and only have access to internet and after hours phone.
Been quite dificult to to get people to email back in regards parts and things. So much info but so little response.
Think I'm going to have to wait until I get home and start making some phone calls.
I have been considering buying the trail gear 3/4 link kit from the states as i know its tried and tested.
However, I didn't start this project just to bolt together someone elses hard work, more to see If I have the ability to make my own tough truck and be competitive. In saying that i think I will stick with my original plan and fab most of the stuff i need, will take alot longer but skinning knuckles and gettin covered in grease is what I love haha.
One thing I havn't got to the bottom of yet is trailing arm bushes. I want a bush that is regularly available off the self, robust enough to withstand the abuse it will get and adaptable enough to fit in a common size tube or pipe. I see alot of people using patrol rod ends, are these the way to go? Where is the best place to buy them? I know if I go to a wreckers and see what second hand trailing arms I can get I will end up with a bill big enough to buy creeper joints from low range or something.

Heim joints are the go for suspension links or a Johnny joint style ! Looking at the trail gear 3/4 link settle isn't a bad option as it's not using others hard work it saves you doing hours of work to find out it binds and was a waste of time and to start over!

What is the difference in fj and hilux transfer?

Don't think it will work as both front and rear driveshafts are offset.
Will there be any difference in the marks adapter plate? does the same hilux case bolt up to a cruiser box?

have seen an sr20 in a searia set up for cruser park style flat track stuff very very fast a mate of a mate has it now i am fairly sure it keeps riping the transfer case mounts out of chassie

Actually there`s nothing wrong with what Ive put together to build this rig. More important than what you`ve got is seat time, I managed about 50 hrs before TuffTruck this year and really need another 50 to know this inside out

40's are not a must have at all. Alot of small sierra's go better on 37's.
