Can't help with ram selection as I just stole the air hydro one of my engine crane and replaced it with a normal manual one but definitely double check the outside radius as the swag bracket is really tight around the ram.
Other thing I noticed is you can't torque down the through bolt on the bracket really tight, even with the bronze bushings it gets really tight to return the ram to the closed position.

Bender is in melbourne  and the swag kit and hydro ram should be here by weeks end. I also scored 4 trolley wheels from work today and I have a busted A-frame off a truck that i'm gonna weld up for the trolley.

while i would love a jd bender or something similar i wasnt prepared to throw that much more money ontop of my build again.
i have pics in the members atm of my zuk i have just barred up. i have a cheapy 200 bender with some dawn dies. was just under 200 for a 32 and 25 die and allthough they arent a real tight radius i can get to 90 degrees without kinks. i have also just ordered a 20nb die for one last bit of pipe work 85 delivered through local gasweld store.

my old dies bent downgrade stuff with minimal ripples in medium wall but with 1st grade black kinked it shut very early on.i havent welded pipe to my rollers like zoltan showed, but i do sit some there for each bend and not one dent from roller in my hole cage. Its not a show winner but it looks good and will do the job for under $500 with the 3 good dies.
im just worn out from all the pumping i had to do to bend the cage lol

Don't forget customs & handling fees, at a guess you will be another $200ish out of pocket.

Hi Cliff,

If it's of any interest to you - our current price on the same items would be $1650.00, but please remember that includes 10% GST that goes straight to the government, our ex GST price is actually $1500.00.

This price is ex Dural but we can give you a freight quote too if you like, we'd just need to know your address.

All items are in stock, ready to ship and obviously come with Australian warranty and local support should you need it.

If you do get stung with customs and import duties you could end up paying more than what it would have cost to purchase through us in the 1st place.

If you'd like any further info feel free to drop us a line @ OPW or hit the JD2 website (http://www.JD2.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Agree with Tazz, I bought all my gear threw OPW way back in the day & helped Pete with hydro motor set-up as I was one of the first with these benders.

It isn't just $$$ as weight can cause handling fees, etc.

Cliff I done alot of research into importing my bender before making initial purchase, It has been know that customs have included the postage cost into the total value putting you well over the $1k mark and having you face large customs charges and taxes. In the case of spending $400 on postage you are better off buying it from OPW and having the local support off Tazz. I brought mine in with JT Imports and it will be close to a 4 month wait so it depends how soon you want it. Now for the breakdown of my setup and what it cost me.

$738 - JD 32 and 1 3/4 die plus postage to JT
$151 - JT Imports shipping
$ 84 - Courier from JT to NSW
$189 - Swag hydro adapter kit with postage
$120 - Hydro ram with postage

Total $1282

If I was a business but I would have spent the extra and bought local for the support and claimed it on tax.

splitting the invoice they still can get you. if it is from the same place going to the same place at the same time it gets added together. as this is how the longs were.

Bit of a dig here..

In page two of this thread Zoltan posted a picture of the modified rollers on one of the cheapy benders, turning them into slide blocks...
Do you still have this picture Zoltan? Or anybody?

re the JD benders and freight. When I imported my JD4, before Pete/OPW were the aussie reps, I just got it all sent over via what ever couier company they used. They stung me for the gst etc of coarse, but also brokerage fees, storage fees etc....Now you can argue black and blue, right and wrong, my mate this or that, but when the buggers have your stuff you got to pay if you want to take it home with you.

Becareful us all...IF pete can offer you the same item within 100-200 on a 1400 price I recon thats pretty fair.

Quick Q?'s...

I need 32nb & 40nb Dawn Die's
Where do i purchase Dawn die's?
& what size radius do they come in?
Am i better off with a 16T over a 12T bow & arrow bender?
Will i be able to bend the above size pipe with 3.2mm wall using this set up?
I will make up some guide pin's similar to Zoltan's design to stop kinking

I have a cheap bow and arrow bender, with dawn dies and the roller modification.

It will bend NB pipe past 90 degrees without a problem.

It will bend Seamless Tube up to about 50 degrees before it deforms.

I brought my Dawn dies from Blackwoods, trade account. They are not cheap, and i can't remember what radius they came in.

Thats a supercheap $99 bender with a dawn 25NB Former. The 25NB former cost $125 from total tools at Coopers Plains. I dont think you can specify a radius. The Dawn catalogue i saw only had 1 former listed for each pipe size.

Looks good enough to my eye?

Its alot better than the former that comes with the supercheap bender which isnt a tight fit to the 25nb pipe, so it squashed then kinked.

this is the best bend i got with the supercheap former, packed the pipe with sand, and shimmed around the pipe with 1mm sheet to make it a tight fit in the former.

Image

still shit.

Definately get a dawn former!!!

Image

I got 25nb and 20nb.

Its $1300odd for the dawn bender kit with 6 or 7 formers.

http://www.dawntools.com.au/products/Pi ... f?20110428

thats the dawn bender and lists the formers. lists the bend radius for each former too
