Self Centering rear steer

Whos running it?
Can it be set up so the steering will stay at say 1/3 lock then re center when you want it to?
Or does it just re center as soon as you let the lever go?

As far as i'm aware self centring rear steer centres itself as soon as you let your lever go.
I spoke to some guys the other day about this and the reason they said they didn't run it is because you have to hold the lever while trying to steer and it makes it to hard.
They all said you get used to it having the rear wheels off centre every now and then and you can feel it as you get more used to the car.
With your buggy you will be able to see the rear wheels where they are anyway and you can see rear steer drivers are always looking to see where their rear wheels are steering while thier driving.
You'll get used to it the more you drive.

I haven't set it up yet but all I need is the proximity switches. Then it will stay whatever lock I want it on untill I flick a switch either left or right ( depending on what way the wheels are pointing) and it will self centre

In a perfect world I would want to have a button to hit when I want it to center otherwise it to stay where I put it.

IMO/2c all is do able but I know that rustys has had a bit of a look in it and has something kinda worked out and I'm going to sydney soon to have a look at it and other stuff.

on the other hand more stuff to go wrong more weight not sure how much though and would wonder about switches down at the diff especially after the sh#t in the mud run at TT this year I don't know how long it would last

also if its a buggy or truggy if its like mine you can turn your head and see the RS anyway and when your get used to it its not a big issue. Did make up a push pull cable from the diff to a small indicator gauge on the dash that moved the same as the wheels. took it out for a weekend never looked at it so pulled it out and still just turn my head to see the rear

if you were to have a valve on the two hoses going to the cyl with a closed centre condition then you could power it open with a switch or preferably a pushbutton on the end of the steering lever so that the cyl would always stay fixed unless the button was depressed

only rear reason i can see for wanting it would be if your doing speeds, the last thing you want is the rear not to be straight when speeds get up!

Could you set the self centering up so that there was a manual lock on the lever to hold certain positions, say twist right and it locks. Twist left and it centers back out, could be done with a bit of plate and threaded stick with a large washer, will prob have to draw a pic for it to make sense

We are in the process of self center , a mate is designing a circuit board to control everything, two modes full button auto or manual. Rod will be connected to steering arm to sense position.
That reminds me have to call him and see where it is. But like its been said, if you drive it long enough u get the feel for it, i prob won't need it soon lol

The mogrover used to have a pretty simple setup for self center, and was just a button on the dash, if u wanted to straighten the rear just hit the buttOn

i should add my input is from hydraulic knowledge only and i have no experience using or building rear steer setups, i would also be interested in the common cheap setup that people are actually using

the setup on mine is only a double acting double ended ram with a normal spool / valve others i think run a 12V solienoid valve body which i think is the way to go ??

Think he was getting at back yard dodgies using his plans and under cutting him when he has spent time planning and developing a setup.

Guts had a bit of a play at my place yesterday arvo to make adjustments to buggy to suit him & reckons he will get used to it soon enough but the need for self-centring for faster events is a must.

sorry for the high jack but thinking of running 2 pumps one for the front and a seperate curcuit for the rear dose anyone do this just thought i could then steer both ends at the same time
