Patrol gearbox guru-help needed

Post by simcoe »

Hi guys, i just have a simple questions which i need a pretty right answer :P

so i have a gu 00 model td42t wagon with a blown 5th and iv been trying to find out exactly what gearboxes will fit strait up 100% and be the same gearing.
i spoke to a guy last night off the patrol forum who will in the next few weeks have a 3.0l 2008 gearbox for sale. he said the bell housing is obviously different but that gearbox will bolt to my bellhousing! is this correct and how much different will the ratios be as i like the gearing the way it is.

any help would be great, oh and i have searched for hours and most of the info was for TB to TD boxes etc

cheers

The gearboxes are the same except the new 3.0L CRD patrols have slightly different gearing. The CRD's have 4.556:1 1st compared to 4.262:1 for the TD42T's.
also see.

Nissan Australia's webpage confirms that the new models have changed to 4.556:1 in first, like the GQ gear ratios.

cool thanks heaps for that, didnt even think to check the nissan site regarding gear ratios

so if i go the 08 box basically all my gears will be the same apart from a lower 1st, which probably isnt such a bad thing for clutch life/towing etc.
and it will bolt up!

well that is question pretty much answered

cheers raptor
