Is it a big job to change the rear axel seals my left hand side has just died big time

Nope, takes about 5 mins. Unbolt the axle, use a brass drift to help knock loose and remove the cone washers, remove axle, replace seal and re-assemble.

If you're not looking to change the diff oil, park your truck on an angle to get the oil to one side. When removing the cone washers, any short rod of 10-20mm will do as a drift (I've used old sawn-off breaker bars). Hit it square on, and give it a good, sharp hit, and you should see it pop out. If you're worried about damaging the thread, get another nut (m8?) and screw it on the end and hit that.
But yes, it really is a piece of piss.
However, if it's pissing oil into your hub, as mine did, you'll have to repack the bearings, or depending on condition, replace them too. And then your brakes aswell. I had to drive on mine several hours before I could fix it and oil was thrown everywhere and made a mess of the drum setup, but being a 99 model, I assume you have disc brakes and it could be a different story.

Seals done, I did the oil at the same time wasn't a hard job the seal only just died so there was very little oil in the bearings however I cleaned them and repacked just to be sure
