1kz-te 2004 Hilux sluggish and doughy

Post by Feass »

Hey all,

I have a 12/04 Lux, 3.0ltr TDI with a 1KZ-TE in it. It behaving really poorly of late. When you take off from idle it feels really under powered and sluggish. If you sink the boot into it, it bogs down and barely accelerates - feel worse than NA. When you reach 3000rpm it suddenly feels more powerful, like its comes on boost or something. I have fiddled with the waste gate, EGR, disconnected battery and taken relay's out etc, still no change. When normally driving, if you accelerate really slowly, it feels more powerful and responds differently to if you were to sink the boot in. I have been told the little stepper motor on the throttle body can crap it self and become "slow". Car has 115km on the clock and starts and idles fine, well serviced.

Really starting to give me the sh*ts!!

Cheers!

Dan

Check the small electrical plug on the air cleaner, mine was left off after a service and behaved the same as yours.

Also it could the TPS switch, but more than likely the little air probe in the air box....

OK,

So i took the throttle body off and intake manifold and completely cleaned it all out, removed the EGR completely as it was broken and stuffed, blanked the EGR on the manifold and the pipe coming from the turbo side of engine. It responds alot better now but not as it should. It also now idles strangely, it sorter sits there and hunts slightly after idling for about 5 seconds... ? The air filter is brand new as well as oil and fuel - 600k old. I am wondering if the turbo is buggered?? it still gives a good kick of power past 3k but not a predominate as before. The little air filter sensor thing is in where it should be, do these bugger up sometimes - could this be the fault and not showing up on a computer diagnostic?

Cheers

Its also fly by wire, no throttle cable or anything. I believe they change from cable to FBW in 2002... When i took the throttle body off i also took the little motor for the butterfly and the case that sits over the spring loaded thing on the other side. I am unsure as to why they have a screws that go into the top and bottom with a slide so you can turn them either clockwise or anti-clockwise... maybe this has something to do with it all?
