How to get Sierra/Vitara 8V head apart?

Post by Impulsive »

Hi all,

Just pulled the head off the Vitara (G16A 8V) today.

In order to get the cam lifters off too relax all the valves, there's normally a set of hexagonal bolt heads on the top of each side of the cam journal carriers, but in the suzuki's there isn't. Instead, as some of you may know, there's only small philips head bolts, which, when removed, seem to only reveal the insides of the oil galleries.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the cam lifters, etc off the head?

There's gotta be a trick to it!!

There seems to be a split about 3/4 of the way down, where I presume it comes apart, but buggered if I can see the bolts that hold it together (or am I just a dumb sh*t?)

Thanks in advance...

undo the small phillips screws (use loctite on em when they go back in .. as they have been known to come loose) and then use a saft faced hammer to slowly knock the "bars" outa there ..
