toyota hilux gearbox

Post by meggie »

hi, new to this site, just wanting some advice on my hilux gearbox, i recently fully rebuilt my 2.8 1996 hilux duel cab and put a dts turbo kit on it, 2000kms later i blew up my G52 5 speed gearbox (lost all gears bar 4th) thinking the cluster shaft, anyway is there another box that is stronger that will bolt up without using adoptor plate or any major mods? cheers

Try find a Turbo deisel Surf or V6 4Runner box they are a bigger stronger box, The surf box will bolt straight to the motor (right bell housing) not sure about the box x-member you might need the surf one. I'm not sure if the bell housing from the V6 box will fit.
if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!

MICO, do you mean out of a 3ltr turbo diesel surf? or the older 2.4/2.8? And would a 5 speed out of the first of the 3 ltr turbo hiluxs suit and be stronger you think? cheers

They are all the same box (R15#f) mate (except the surf didn't have the 2.8) in the surfs and V6 4Runners, I'm not sure about the T/D Hilux's they might be a W series box (some one here will know). The R series boxes are stronger then the W's

The R15#f are more then strong enough for a turbo 2.8 deseasal I've had one behind a Lexus V8 for years and never broken it and I ain't easy on it. There are plenty of people around with heaps more grunt then me running them and not breaking them.
