Shit stirring aside, good to see the comp evolving again. Its going to make the calliber of entrants even better. The blanket rule on nb is a little rough, perhaps they can be viewed on a case to case basis.

Just wanting to check. I'm assuming cutting sections out of the middle of the grill to clear winch motors and bar work dosnt affect my 80% so I can still cut a 1m grill down to 0.8. At a quick measure and calculation I have removed 18% out of the middle but am still at full width so can I narrow it by 20% now or 2% ?

I thought it was 80% of front view. So bonnet, windscreen, grill, lights, guards etc. that's what you look at looking front on. Not just the grill. IMO

I think that is just the choice you need to live with. Guards are only required to meet the inside of the tyre. The rule as far as I'm aware is 80% profile from bonnet extremities with full headlight surround required.
Ben (Wicked) I think you are required to maintain original firewall/A pillar width with factory windscreen surround.

Will the design of the cage and the welding be as scrutinised as the material we use? There have been poorly designed roll cages how will this be policed? Will the welding of the cage need to be done bye a qualified welder to a standard? Or will we see again as we have before the cage falling apart at the welds from poor welds as i am yet to see a pipe fail there only ever the welds!! Again how will these issues be addressed? No matter what material is used its only as strong as the design and welding that make it up!

Guards are not inclusive of profile for our determination! Its about maintaining vehicle recognition, For Example, allowing a GU trimmed narrower than 80 % looks like crap & is not what we want, so regardless of the make, Grill Width must comply to the amended rule which has always been the intended rule, only now with further clarification, as there are a number of teams outside of our requirements.
Re Roll Cage welding, Its something thats hard to enforce with out making teams have an engineer or the like sign off on it. Which will add even further expense to teams and at this point we do not want to enforce it.

Good question, Shieldsy. At TT scrutineering this year they had a recognised expert in that field (Matt from Performance Metals) inspecting the cages and he had a piece of testing equipment that measured the wall thickness of the tube. This rule is fair and every competitor is being given absolutely bucket loads of time to prepare for this............ Most guys have bent bits of cage that need replacing anyways, may as well bend up a new section.
In order for there to be more events per year, not just tuff truck for this style of vehicle, its very important to slowly bring the regs inline with most other motorsports of this type and good as possible. This way at least, other companies and people in the scene will be more inclined to run events for us or allow a class for us in an existing event as our cars will meet a generic ( not comp specific ) set of rules and guidelines.

It would have been within the 80% m2 of the full front profile including front of bonnet and windscreen which how I understood this rule. I could even get away with 80% without windscreen but need front bonnet profile to be a part of this. Just going on 80% of grille width seems a bit unfair unless you build it up from somthing with narrow grille and headlights (eg. 40 or zuke)

yeah looks like we did our last tt it would have been good to give the patrol one last run in 2013 but we can only manage 70% front profile and there is no other way to over come this .
a stock patrol grille is 1.7mtrs wide i wish we built a 40 or jeep or suzi things would be alot simpler .
rules are rules and its good to see tt enforcing them . maybe we will build something new for 2014 havnt decided yet .

My 60 is very similar to the front of your patrol and the only way I thought it may be possible to get somwhere within the rules is to maybe do something similar to lukeys lux to use most of grille and but use original headlights lifted up into bonnet slightly to get clearances only thing is we can't use headlight surrounds or original blinkers. Don't know if this would keep enough profile but would give it close to the width required.
Do you think this would work?

It sh@ts me to tears with crap remarks like that. The ruling which past competitors have been made aware of happening for the past 2-3yrs is mainly based around vehicles losing there instant identity.
Pete & many others both of which include spectators & competitors wanted TTC to retain as much as possible it's "Grass Roots" with respect to spectators being able to relate the vehicles somewhat to there own. Spectators having the ability to support a Nissan, Toyota, Suzuki, etc.
