cheap MT's

Ive had a look through most to the tyre section but most seems to about one tyre versus another.

I'm very new to 4x4 and am looking for a MT (not necessary to be good onroad as they would be swaped out for ht) that is cheap that can handle mud and sand would say 70%/30%

Also if you know of a good tyre shop in Brisbane that dose not charge the earth

As for whats a good tyre?? That question has unlimited answers.
Mickey Thompson MTZ, is a great offroad tyre, good onroad too.
Maxxis Bighorn/Buckshot would be good too.
BFGoodrich MT KM2 are reported to be good for everything.

Have a search through the tyre topics, which can be found in Gen Tech on this forum, for more info on a particular tyre.

I have Kuhmo radial MUDs on my work ute I live them so far, I got 285/75R16 they were $267ea compared to $380 for an mtz. I'll be sticking with these for a while!

Maxxis bighorns. I've got em and I love em. Sumitomo I think do an even cheaper copy, of the buckshot at least, mate ran em on his ute and they where ok but I'd still pay the extra for maxxis.

They get expensive when you have to pay midgets to run along in front to cover hard surfaces with marshmallows and yummy bears though!




Have a look on eBay, or the classifieds here, there's often cheap used tyres for sale.

You get what you pay for.
Cheap tyres are cheap for a reason.
There is no consistancy with cheap tyres, one batch will be gerat & you will get great KLM's from them with no puntcher issues,tearing,splitting,cracks ect, & the next will be sh!t. the qualiyy control can be a bit of a luckydip

Best cheap tyres I got were 33" goodyear wranglers. They cost me $500 for four of them. They were used - about 80% left though. Looking out for a reasonable 2nd hand set is one option.

The other option is not to get a cheap set, but just to bite the bullet and get a good set. Unless you end up just hating 4WDing you'll have them for ages, and if you do end up hating 4WDing you can sell them.

If you go option 2, be sure to take em off straight after a trip, and they should last ages. Running them on bitumen wears them out too fast.

I just got some 33x10.5 BFG KM2's from Tempe Tyres for $290 each. Cheap as chips and a good all rounder. I'm expecting 40,000+km's out of em. Anything more is a bonus.

Going second hand should get you a set of 33-35's for $650ish with plenty of life left on em.

It must be that I do mostly open hiway running, but I manage about 90,000+ out of a set of MT's that see dirt at least a couple of times a month.

Keep an eye on ebay .. sets pop up on there from time to time of great prices.

i had the sumitomo muddies few years back.
man i thought they where like tractor tyres when i went into a well known local wrecker.
big massive tread, had to get me those!
but didnt last long, dont know the km's, maybe 30 to 40 thousand if lucky.

Cheapest i could find at the time, Worked well on a zook. They are undersize though.

A lot of imported remoulds now, They are cheap but i wouldnt run them for onroad

My first mud tyres were 32" silverstones. I thought they were great for the money.

another one for the mudstars here, the standard 33's to suit a 15" rim arent much bigger than a 32 but if you go a 16" rim they're almost right on the money, i honestly cant fault mine they never give me dramas, only selling to go up a size
