THE WAR OF THE WINCHES

Post by stevo the devo »

A new winch competition and something just a little bit different coming to the great south east. The plans are for a monthly winch competition to be held at CITY VIEW CAMPING & 4WD PARK, some details still to be sorted out but the general guidelines will be :- there will be two classes

one of which will be the extreme class which will be open to winch trucks, buggy/truggy and polaris style vehicles all competing against each other with a maximum tyre size of 38". No portal axles or rear steer allowed and normal winch challenge style rules and specs will apply.

The other class will the stocker class which will be only open to full bodied 4wds which will have a maximum tyre size of 33" no lockers or welded diffs etc and stock standard winches. (roll cages will not be required for this stocker class)

The proposed entry fee for the event will be $120.00 per round if paid a minimum of seven days in advance or $150.00 if paid in less than seven days, this will also cover park entry & camping on friday and saturday nights for the driver and navigator.

There will be no fee for tow vehicles providing they are left in the campgrounds with trailers attatched, if they are to be used in the park at all then normal park entry fees will apply.

Please show your support for this event by posting here or phoning steve on 0438043871 or email cityview@hotmail.com.au as the bigger the show of support the sooner we get it up and running.

as long as maximum 33s and unlocked that would be ok as this class is designed to not need cages therefore the main concern is no traction aids so as to make you have to winch without having to put you in extreme terrain and will be designed so that the v8 will not be an advantage

as soon as there is enough interest shown we will get it happenin, i am hoping to do a couple of rounds this year, i dont see why we cant start a series now and run to the same time next year , doesnt seem to be a reason that a season has to start and finish in the same calendar year let me know what you think

ten competitors would be really good to get the first round happening 5 in each class would be good but either class could run if there was a minimum of three as long as there was seven in the other.

Not an easy objective Heath I wish you all the best with that and i hope you succeed there's not much money around at the moment and people are holding on to it pretty tightly ! The way i have been building my truck is to cash in my acrewed holidays from work and just leaving a couple of weeks there all the time so if i want time off its there as well.Maybe that will help in your situation cheers mate

Someone should start an event that puts different winches up against each other like magazines do when they compare some products.
It would be more about the winches speed and reliabilty, how user friendly they are and so on.
For example you could have a simple stage for outright fastest no load line speed, another could be winching a dead vehicle up a steep hill 10 times. That would sort out any heat build up issues where pto may be better than electric.
Just a thought...
