4.2 into a 1998 2.8 Wag

Post by V.W.Dave »

Ok so we are about to put a worked 4.2 into a 1998 2.8.
I have googled and searched on a few sites now and I keep coming up with dead ends or threads that ask the question then never go through with the job. So I am not searching correctly or not searching the right thing.
These are the links i keep finding
Dead end http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-p ... t-d-27074/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A little help but not really http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89348" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not much help either http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/s ... swap/page2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can some one post up some links for me to read through please.

I know the engine mount has to be moved.
I know the trans mount is different.
I know the the transfer is the same throughout so the drive shafts will work.
We have a complete wiring loom and a good autosparky on hand to figure all that out.

If some one has done this before please let me know any other odds/ends we will need and anything else we will run into while doing this.

Thanks in advance.

I'm keen to read about this also if anyone has some info.
I looked into this as a cheaper alternative to bending over for the price of a 4.2 Gu. I'm not 100% but I think the td42 you slot in has to be out of a car of the same series and/or emissions blanket. As in you can't put an early Gq td42 into a 2002+ model Gu unless you get all the pollution gear off a Gu series engine. (I'm talkin rego wise) can anyone confirm or quash what I just typed?

I put a 4.2 in to my 1997 2.8 all I had to change was my drivers side engine mount
I used a 4.2 gearbox but my 2.8 transfer. All the wiring just plugged into the original
Wiring loom. It was a piece of piss
