80 series booster to hilux

Post by tuffskid »

I have recently wide tracked my 85 hilux and upgraded all the brakes too, so I went about buying an 80 series master and booster to give me the braking pressure I was lacking... But I have ran into some problems, I have bought a booster off a guy that said it was a non abs unit!!!, I go to install it ( grind the firewall abit) to make it fit and it wouldn't, so I bought the spacer!!! Put that on and still won't fit, the booster is hitting the throttle cable that comes out of the fire wall? Anyone heard I this? Help on anything, I'm thinking I have the wrong booster?

Any help will be much help to me as I have no idea and I'm not finding much info on the net!!!!

I have an 80 booster and master cyl in my 86Lux, and I never had any issues when fitting it to the firewall.
I did have to slightly egg out the hole in the firewall so it would bolt up flush. But apart from that, it all went in pretty easily.

Heres a pic of it...

i think mine might be a larger unit, its off a 93 1hz? it looks like ill have to unbolt the throttle conection through the firewall and slot it towards the drivers side for the booster to clear, will get pics tomorrow

Ill look at mine tomorrow and let you know how close mine is.

All I know about the booster/master is that its off an early 80series, that had drum rear/disc front.

Just to let everyone know, the throttle cable in mine hits the booster like in the pics above, I have had zero issues with either the brakes, or the throttle in the 18+months that its been in the Lux.

I'll post a pick later of mine.... Basiclly I drilled out the captive nut closest to the guard just big enough to fit the cable through, drilled 1 hole in the firewall for the bolt to pass through and used a washer on the other side where the cable used to run. then I just removed the accelarator pedal and bent the top over so the cable isn't pulled on an angle :)
YN65 X-Tra cab, 33's, 3" body lift otherwise stock. (the brumby got stolen)

Do you need to run the 80 series booster or will the 80 series m/cyl just bolt up to the hilux booster?
