FJ-45 Ute what to look for

Post by Mossy »

Hi guys I am only new to this board, I am after some information if I can. I am looking at buying a FJ-45 Ute with a petrol motor. What problems should I look for etc to make sure I am not buying a lemon. Thanks in advance Mossy.

Chassis at the front of the rear spring mounts for cracks and or major rust. also
Check the inside of the chassis rails for major rust

rusty roof around guttering. (not a major problem)

steering relay box. might be a bit worn but its a common thing. it creates slop in steering, its normal tho. when it starts clunking. you have to do something about it.

not sure if it bothers you. but the older FJs had no syncros on first gear.

swivel hub bearings. all bearings for that matter. just check stuff, and check low range/hi range 4wd.

pretty easy to fix one up if chassis/body is straight and it runs fine.

there are a few differences in the years aswell. ie petrol tank inside cab.
but they are a basic car, pretty damn durable.

are you looking for a ute or a tray?
