30mm OD, 15mm ID spring bushing source

Post by vk7ybi »

Hi All
I'm in urgent need of a quantity of spring bushings that have the above mentioned dimensions for my Toyota. Where can I get some in a hurry?

That's early 40 pins but what springs run 30mm eyes?

I couldn't find anything exact but you might find something close enough to work with here:

http://www.nolathane.com.au/catsize_bush.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Select type 1 and enter a dimension for ID or OD and see what you can find. You'll need to know the length of the bush you need too.

55 springs have 30mm eyes.. 55s have 18mm pins. I have an early small pin 40. Hilux spring eyes are 30mm with 18mm pins also..

I pressed some 35mm 60 bushings in there and bored them to 15mm for now till I can find a better solution..

Sierra are 30-13 so you could boar them out easy enough

Only problem is the length of the bush, suzuki ones would be too short as they run narrow springs.

You managed to get a 35mm OD bush into a 30mm spring eye and managed to bore them out to 15mm when they were 18mm to start with?

I reckon you should just change your hangers to later model 40 ones so you can then use stock 55 bushes in the eyes with stock 40 pins, stock (or extended) 40 shackles and stock 40 shackle hanger bushes for ease of sourcing parts later when your custom/booty fabbed bushes die. If you're going to make it flex that might be often.

I realised this problem with the zook parts.

I pressed the bushings into the eye with the press. When you put a 35mm bushing into a 30mm hole, it shrinks. The ID of the bushing shrinks accordingly, therefore needing to be opened up to accept the 15mm pin. This is a temporary measure only, while I mock my front axle up. I have done this before to get Hilux bushings into small eye 40 springs. These are things you do when there are no other options. I will source better bushings later, looks like there are some very close on the Nolathane listing.

I have other options, those are sleeve the spring eye to 25mm and run stock 40 bushings. Sleeve the shackle pin to 18mm and run stock 55 bushings. Make small/big pin shackles.

Removing mounts from the 40 frame is not an option for this conversion, unfortunately.

Why dont you use the Hilux 30mm outer/18mm inner and make a metal sleeve that fits inside to give you the correct diameter for your bolt.
ie, try and find 18mm outside diameter 1.5mm wall tube and push it through the bush like a crush tube (i dont know if you can get 18mm tube?).
, or 20mm outside diameter 2.5mm wall tube and have it turned down in a lathe.

I beleive this would be the quickest and cheapest way to solve your problem.

Thanks - Adam

That's what I meant by sleeving the 15mm pin to 18mm, I suspect I would have to get something machined to do this with.. If I did this I would just run 55 bushings as they are the correct length..
