gu stuck in gear
gu stuck in gear
so i was driving up the highway and down shifted to fourth to slow down for my turn off, and then couldn't get it out of fourth it seems jammed in there. checked master and slave etc but i put it in low and can still start and stop with clutch.....pulled gearstick out and it looks fine should i pull the cover plate off the top??? Any other ideas? please? thanks
i'd rather push my patrol than drive a buggered toyota!
Re: gu stuck in gear
What model/year? Earlier, up to series 2 I believe still had the fifth gear issues prone to breakage under load, ie when towing in fifth especially.
Maybe it's crapped out....

My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.
Re: gu stuck in gear
99 4.2 tdt was meant to have been a rebuilt box about 7 months ago.(replaced because fifth shat itself) would be lucky if it's done 5000 km since then, and haven't really towed anything in that time. Kinda feels like the hand brake is on a little too...

Re: gu stuck in gear
Hi its not a 5th gear problem! when 5th gear goes you just lose 5th gear because its turning on the out put shaft, you must have a selector problem !!cheers
Re: gu stuck in gear
I think Judge it right, its probably Jammed. I had a VL turbo with the MX7 speed that jammed in 5th and reverse at once and I made the mistake of ripping it out and broke the end off the selector fork. It was cast alloy and I replaced all the selectors with nismo steel. I never had the same problem again. I would like to think the td42 5 speeds have steel forks but if not i would be replacing them with steel if they were available.
