200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
Evening All,
Anyone know the ins and outs of the factory dual battery setup e.g. do they isolate then start of one or two? I am told there is some sort of switch in cab factory for starting off 2nd ? or both?
What i am trying to figure is what i will need to keep from old truck e.g. Red Arc Isolator and deep cycle battery. On a major shed clean out so clearing all un needed shite and i am keen to know how it all works as no one seems to know
Any help appreciated

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
whilst there is 2 battery there not a dual battery system
the batterys are connected in parralell.
there is no isolation what so ever. dunno where they got the switch in cab for.
you can just fit decent N70 batterys and an isolator and have it crank off one leaving the other one for running fridges.
Ive done quite a few now with no issues

Ok that being the case i have the isolator and deep cycle and then can get a cheap century for starting but then i have 2 spare batteries factory batteries that will have done weeks work only ?? Seems a waste. No way they can start these things reliably if just run one factory as a starter? Obviously not i guess hence the 2..... anyone wish to buy 2 brand new batteries

nah they start fin e off 1 battery
not sure why they have parallell batteries
100 series turbo diesel has the parallell batteries aswell, but the turbo diesel ute only has 1 battery, yet nearly same engine???

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
Yes mate i know they start fine off one but obviously not off obe standard battery as they are lower powered, possible 500 cca vs about 750 cca on a larger replacement. Hence the problem as it renders them almost useless when dual battery system is setup.

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
no, the ute comes with exactly the same battery, just 1 of them. Im sure you will start fine off just 1 of the standard batteries.Bingham wrote:Yes mate i know they start fine off one but obviously not off obe standard battery as they are lower powered, possible 500 cca vs about 750 cca on a larger replacement. not sure what you would use the other one for though.

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
workshops will fit larger N70 batteries in just to give extra capacity over the OEM batteries.
sort of an insurance policy. yes the car may start at home in a warm garage but what about after a night of camping in the really cold climate.

my 2003 landcruiser starts first go at perisher carpark covered in ice. didn't need to crank any longer than normal (from what i could tell)popeyehj60 wrote:workshops will fit larger N70 batteries in just to give extra capacity over the OEM batteries.

thats with twin century overlander n70 batteries though lol
although im sure a single N70 would easily do it, and im quite sure the oem ute battery would do it too.
if you ran out of diesel and had to crank the fuel throyugh, then you might be looking for the dual battery setup...

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
I pick this 200 up this thursday and will start to get bits sorted. Seems many suppliers (except ARB) cant confirm if they have bullbars to suit it. Being the GX and the newer slightly revised 200. I refuse to pay stupid money for a decent steel bulbar. Surely $1500 Fitted or under should get not the 2-3k they want for one. Any info on such bull bars and availability and $$ would be great.

mine (on 100serires) a "Powerful 4x4" bar, works good and looks good.
I think i paid about $1500, but the arb bar is a nicer bar IMO

supply and demand at work there.
We just put a ARB black steel winch bar on a 08 Ranger at work Under $900 incl GST how much more metal in a 200 series bar?

I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
my point exactly an OEM battery will start it first go but if u need to crank it extra then u might run into trouble esp as the 200 has a lot of electrics that require full 12 volt to function and allow the car to start. its like carrying an extra spare. its insurance against having starting issuesShadow wrote:my 2003 landcruiser starts first go at perisher carpark covered in ice. didn't need to crank any longer than normal (from what i could tell)popeyehj60 wrote:workshops will fit larger N70 batteries in just to give extra capacity over the OEM batteries.

Re: 200 series Factory Dual Battery Setup
if your going to stuff around and get another car battery for your main starting, look up CAT online.
i bought a 1000CCA battery for 175 delivered, from the newcastle cat? or westrac? delivered to gosford.
it has serious balls to start my 2h, ive never heard a starter motor turn over soo quick, BRILLIANT stuff.
it also has 4years warranty, 2years full, and the other 2, you pay half they pay half, try getting a 1000CCA battery for 175 from a shop, let alone with a solid reputation on their gear, like CAT.
that battery alone will be fine for the twin turbo v8 diesel. plenty of starting grunt for the engine.
even reckon it would be ample for the 7.3 v8 diesel in the f250.
