200 series live axle

Post by camshaft »

Has anyone heard of a 200 series that has had a live axle swap, is it possible?
What are your thoughts on the idea?

If you got the money for a 200 series and a axle swap probably only an extra 10-15K to have it all engineered, tested etc.

Why?

if your taking a 200series into places you need the flex from a live axle, then your about to wreck a $80k+car and in my opinion your stupid not to just buy an 80 series for $20k

Mate how old are you (serious question). A 200 would be more than a capable tourer without the axle swap an with money saved you could put a deposit down on a house an set yourself up for life. Just a thought an I bet grandma will still be well proud. Have a look on some of the nomad forums and see what others have done before you blow your coin.

Not trying to be rude mate just think it needs a bit more thought. And that engine swap on a hilux will cost upwards of $20k unless you can do a lot of the work yourself. Buds customs is the guy to talk to about live axle swaps but is in qld.

What kind of 4wding do you do that requires you to have live axle? Do you just want live axles for the sake of having more flex? If you bought a Toyota Hilux 05 onwards and put lockers front and rear and a lift with some decent muddies you'll go pretty much anywhere.

Hay mate

I just got myself a 76 and my old man got a 200. (very happy Toyota dealer)

If you want a luxury tourer then go the 200 with a 40mm lift and lockers it will go more places then you would want to drive it.

I got the 76 and in short want a little Over The Top when it came to mods but it has your fabled live axel and it has the 4.5 v8 and the toyota landcruiser turning circle to match.

Just my thoughts but if you want a one off 200 series and can part with the coin then go for your life.
Unless you only have a auto license then you may want the 200.

Have fun with whatever you choose

Sounds like a cool idea, if you've got the money go for it. Look up Consulmotive and speak to him. We might be doing a coilover sas on a 2000 hilux and we told the bloke to ring him first to see if he would engineer it and he said as long as it's safe he'll pass it.....

90% of the time people on here will help out. But if your being unrealistic you gotta expect it.

I think you will find you need all this for engineering

Wont work the chassis is to tight

Simple answer is talk to an engineer, then talk to insurance mobs, then find someone that will work with the engineer....

sorry i was being sarcastic

I would love to have the 4.5l toyota v8 diesel, and considered putting a 1HDFTE in.

but the 1hdfte costs about 4 times as much as an LS1 and have less power. 1VDFTE engine/auto/transfer plus the stuff you need for conversion would cost about 15k i rekon, too much coin for me for just a motor.
