Re: 200 series live axle
You could prob get a duramax cheaper than a 4.5L v8 diesel.
But as everyone said talk to an engineer. If you can't get it engineered there is no point getting worked up over others comments

Re: 200 series live axle
Personally I think you would be better off spending this amount of money on assets that make you money, not cost you. Invest all that dough now and this truck will buy itself in years to come.
However if you are deadset on spending $100k on a fourby, many things are achievable.
1. Have you considered getting a bullet proof Ultra 4 built? Lets you race, crawl and have more fun in an automobile than possible. Lets face it, once you roll a road going truck, you'll be very sad you have to spend another bag of dollars on your $100k truck. Or it will send you broke. At least a race built buggy is built for its purpose.
2. I also like the bombed 40 series option. Much more possible engineering wise I would think. Maybe re-body a new 70 v8 ute and get coils in the back. Or 80 chassis with 45 cab and duramax.
Either way a build like this will take lots of money, research, organisation, management and communication skills, and stack of time. If you are thinking this can be done in a few weeks forget it. Also when you think you know how much all this will cost, add 50-100%, you'll need it.

This is good advice, listen to uncle Ricko. There has been lots of good advice in this thread, even if they are taking the p**s out of you. Your ideas are cool but unrealistic, combine that with your obvious youth, lack of knowledge and attitude and that is why people will continue to take the p**s.

Or here's another idea, find a truck for sale that someone else has spent a fortune on.
Then wheel the crap out of it from day one, for a lot less cost and a lot less headache.

Re: 200 series live axle
Ok a few points
1. Speak english. If you stop mangling the queens english, take the time to spell check, and stop talking like a flat cap wearing 19 year old texting fucktard then we might stop taking the piss out of you.
2. Big V8 and coils in a vehicle with a SUBSTANTIAL chassis is easy. In a vehicle with a small chassis and driveline like a hilux is damned hard to do properly (has been done plenty before but to do it right takes some real talent.).
3. If you coil a 200 series, unless you do it really really really well you will DEVALUE that car.
4. Work out if you want to tour or drive big bad ass ruts and hills. The vehicles for either styles are NOT compatable (at least not for long). I have the second type of vehicle, and it eats big ass steps and hard core trails for breakfast then shits all over Chuck Norris just for fun. It positively eats ass for touring in. Not only is it a handful to drive, is subject to a LOT of mechanical fatigue but it's just plain unsuitable. You might have a fully hektic GQ like every other wannabe wheeler out there but i guarantee you that if you try to hardcore wheel a 200 you will very soon end up with a 80k pile of unsellable, undriveable shitbox of parts. Dave (80's Delerious) is one of the more talented drivers i've seen around and he punts a 100 series around the same trails i do. Even with loads of experience and skill he has still managed to ding or muntfuck nearly EVERY SINGLE panel on that once pristine truck.
I would say to you to buy a REASONABLE tow vehicle for touring and buy a complete shitbox to beat on like a red headed step kid out on the trails. If i had my time again that's what i would have done.
Edit: I may have exaggerated the capabiilities of my truck a teensie bit

Camshaft now that i think about it, a HJ45 with a 4.5 V8 diesel out of a 70 series would be VERY doable, hardcore as fark, and combined with a set of custom hybrid axles would be just about unstoppable.

Go a duramax diesel and never look back.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

Re: 200 series live axle
For pure ease of the swap, and bang for buck i'd go a 1hdt or even a 1hdFTE with a graeme's turbo on it.camshaft wrote:haha so you like the idea now?

If you're going the expense of a 4.5 V8TD (and be very sure that even a second hand 4.5 will be dollars), then i'd just go a 6.6 Duramax. close to the same size physically, and with the OBD2 computer system it's good for 500HP with an aftermarket computer/controller and not much else.

I you want a really tough truck, buy a HJ 47 ute with a 2H diesel, no power steering, 35's and lots of rust; -now there's a tough truck. I don't need to wrestle crocodiles; - keeping this rig on the road at 100k's is like wrestling 3 crocs at once.

Hey mate, camshaft wrote:sorry hard to read sarcasim lol and yah im glad at least one person thinks its a cool idea
It's probably not that people here don't think its a cool idea, its just that a few of us older ones probbaly have lived long enough to have families and struggle to pay our way and get the stuff we would like our families to have and then think about all the money we have wasted on what we now refer to as 'stupid shit', that we once thought was a must-have. So, all in all, we are trying to help, but just not in a way that you want right now. You have the power to build only two things into your life; - successes and regrets. I'm willing to go out on a limb here and say that this idea you have, although right now you think it is really cool, if done, will one day be a regret.
That is all.
