Re: King Of the Park Challenge
The Team DGR entry is coming together nicely. We've had a few hurdles this week with other commitments but I'm confident we'll get there. Haven't been able to do all the changes / mods we wanted to do but that's life.
We're definitely looking forward to the event. Hopefully it's a good turn out!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
How did everyone go? And what were your thoughts??
My mate raced in the dark green jeep in the winch challenge class and said the terrain and concept was awesome but maybe have 3 lots of points for the day instead of one huge 50 point course?

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
So can you guys give us a good run down of how this event works now?
How were the Winch Trucks and Rock Crawlers timed against each other?
If someone turned up with a Class8 or ProBuggy Offroad Racer - how would they compete? Did they have to find the same GPS points as everyone else - just taking the long way around due to not being able to 4wd through the creeks/obstacles?
Would a ProBuggy even reach the points required?
It sounds like everyone had a ball! Look forward to this event expanding in the future!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Get Digsy, I have spoken to some lads who competed and I don't believe an actuall Offroad racing style of vehicle could have competed.
All competitors had to find the same GPS points, with it being the winch style rigs v the rock buggies. I've only spoken to the winch guys but they said it's an awesome concept and with some tweaks it will be a great event in the years to come.
From what I can gather the winch guys thought the rocks were huge but the rock his thought they were quite easy, but then the rock guys thought the winch walls were to large and the winch guys thought the were easy. So all in all it sounds like it worked out the best it could have in that sense?? With the course layout and obstacles managing to even out the playing field so finish times ended up pretty close together!!
This is just what I have heard from a few lads, but they did say it was great fun, and the property and concept is bloody awesome!!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
There wasn't a dnf time or times you had to beat. the way it worked was everyone headed off then when the first team got back everyone else had 3 hours to finish after them or dnf the day/stage.
Re: King Of the Park Challenge
There was one class 8 running and placed 4th how ever once the rules are actually worked out I find think the class 8s will have a chance

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
Oh righto, the other lads didn't mention a class 8 how did that work out with the rock garden section? Were they given totally different GPS points to everyone else?
Re: King Of the Park Challenge
I dont think the winch walls were too big for the buggys, i should have just put enough string on to get to the top. rocks were only rocks not boulders, when you can fly through it on worn out 33" tyres without the navi getting out you know they aint big. We only had issues with reading the gps, ours was only a tiny hand held job we only got a week before the event.

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
No same points but he skipped the rocks and winching taking peneltys but was one of only 4 cars to finish both days So placed 4th. Most cars Dnf due to breakages not time.

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
So the rocks were easy for folk who have driven that style of terrain before? For guys who have never driven rocks, do you think they were an ok size for them? And did you enjoy the style of event mate?Rhett wrote:I dont think the winch walls were too big for the buggys, i should have just put enough string on to get to the top. rocks were only rocks not boulders, when you can fly through it on worn out 33" tyres without the navi getting out you know they aint big. Two guys I know will be uploading their Incab footage this week, but have to edit the 4-5 hours of footage down to a smaller time frame first haha. Have only seen a couple photo's taken from afar of a few cars winching up out of a gully on Facebook so far.
Re: King Of the Park Challenge
We only pulled the string out once for one of the climbs, drove the rest . could have been some more rock sections, but the sting pullers wouldnt like that.
I think it has good potential, but not the games associated with GPS, we were happy to drive bush to get to points, which was easy with a crawler, but biggest winge was some teams could not/chose not to get to waypoints because of the terrain, and still placed better than us. Was a fun experience though, I thought management of the comp was good considering the the scale of the property. Good effort!

Re: King Of the Park Challenge
I think the event is a good idea , There needs to be two classes 1 for the buggies and 1 for the winch trucks , My self I drove through the rocks once I was commited and I wont fall for that again small tyres and a low lift , Much to hard on the car ,All the rest of the track was great , All the gps points need to have an answer or a stamp . The track for the rock buggies have more rocks and the track for the winch trucks have more hills Most points and most ckeak points quickest time WINS . I will be bach next year if the format can change , I only done recovery Had a blast
