2.4 vs v6 commy

Post by buggy man »

Hey guys, Im after some opinions on what motor to run in my lux.
I have just won a 3.8ltr vs Commodore v6 and auto box complete for $100 on eBay, it is supposed to be in reasonable condition but has been in dry storage for a number of years, the engine and gearbox look very clean and tidy, but I havnt picked it up yet so I haven't had a first hand look.

Atm I have the bog stock 2.4 diesel which has clocked up 550 000 km's so its getting a bit tired is defiantly no power house.
So should I do the swap? All up the engine would cost me $180, plus an adaptor kit so it does add up in price. The work doesn't phase me. But the hardest part would be an engineer's cert. And the cost of it. Say $1500-$2000 for a certificate these days I think?
So is it worth it? Or should I just rebuild the 2l ?
I'm thinking rebuild the commy engine and change a few components to suck some more power and when I have everything ready ill swap it straight over, and sell the diesel motors to make some money back.
Should I swap the gearboxes while I'm going?

Thanks heaps everyone.

Something to consider and depends on driving style tyre size but your more likely to break stuff with the extra power.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
