LED Light bars
Can anyone suggest a good Led light bar? there are so many on the market these days, especially on ebay...
I am assuming the more lumens the better. I am wanting something approx 600mm that puts out ALOT of light, but if im going to spend over $500 would i be better off with 2/ 240Blitz lightforce? Iv had these on patrols in the past and they're pretty good and super strong.
Iv just purchased a 100 series which will be living in Weipa so mostly bush driving, it already has 2/ 170 Lightforce mounted...
Any help appreciated
Nathan

Re: LED Light bars
Offroadboss boss sell excellent light bars.
$575 will get you a 20inch bar.
I've bought the cheap ones (4 ) and they only ended up costing me money and are shit. I got a 12inch one for just over $300, it's a crap reverse light now. That wasn't from Offroad boss btw.
I have a 40" on my roof and love it.

Re: LED Light bars
What are you after distance or spread?
A light bar is great for up to about 300 metres even the biggest and brightest of them all. A decent HID spot light or Projector HID will be good for a 700 metres then some.
Cheers Mick.

Re: LED Light bars
I have a 50" rigid bar and it's the ducks....
In reality, it's fine for 100kmh highway driving, as the actual reflective range and visible range is better than 300m as suggested.
Off road, it kills 100w hid kitted XGT's, which gave two bright spots so bright they were a pain on my eyes after a while as everything else outside this area faded.
There are good premium brands, some good cheaper copies, and a lot of shite.

Re: LED Light bars
Have you actually measured it? I mean sat the 4wd at a desination and measured from that destination to where the light stops???? I've measured a heap of them and I'm yet to see one that gives any usable light over 300 metres. I was being generous with 300 metres it's probably not even that.GUtripper wrote:I have a 50" rigid bar and it's the ducks....

Re: LED Light bars
I had 2x 7" (maybe they where 9") HID lights on the front of my patrol. I took them off after changing too my current light bar. They weren't worth the space.
I haven't measured the distance. It hasn't worried me.
Spot lights do just that, spot. They dont light up the side of the road. With a good light bar it lights up the road AND the surrounding environment.

Re: LED Light bars
I have a 450 mm light bar and it is excellent for what I want - it spreads light everywhere and lights up the shoulders of the road very well. It lacks penetration - I doubt that it would even throw 300 m, and in that respect, I am disappointed about it, but it does spread light locally very well indeed. It is fine for 100 km/h night driving in winding hilly country. Any faster than that and you are inviting disaster because even a light bar will not pick up a roo or wombat if they have their head down grazing. My 100 W Halogen Hi beams look pathetically yellow compared to the LED.

I have a set of AY-Ups for the pushbike.
I go night riding for 2-3 hours at a time, they are 680lumens combined & when I get back in the car they headlights on the car are dull compared to these things but I doubt I can drive with them, the beam is just not long enough. It is the illusion of dullness you get when the LED's are switched off due to the colour of light.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............

Re: LED Light bars
I had a 40" rigid industries light bar, after 3 warranty claims in 9 months I got a refund.
I'm currently running a 2 round led spot lights from Genr8 and live the spread. I have a 40" light bar from genr8 yet to fit but the construction and mounting setup is already better than the rigid one. That's all on my cruiser ute
On my comp truck I run a genr8 20" light bar and love it! Super strong!

Re: LED Light bars
To answer the second part of your question - if you already have a decent set of driving lights (pair of Lightforce 170s) then sure throw the money at an LED bar. If it was a case of one or the other I'd personally recommend some HID floods, but if you can have both that should be a good combo.
You only live once, but live right and once is enough!
Re: LED Light bars
The majority of the cheaper light bars out there do lack distance, this is absolutely true. People buy them and are disapointed, and as a result, think that light bars are shit for long distance. It's made even harder to pick the difference between good ones and bad ones, as the stats on a cheap one can still seem impressive. They can still be IP68 rated, still use 3w led's. or even 5w led's, even cree leds. They also can be listed as producing very good lumens output. But the stats don't always tell the whole story.
Our Offroad Boss light bars achieve a dual beam pattern (spot and spread) through two methods- reflector patterns, and varying focal points on the fish eye lens' over the leds. It's this technology that you can't convey through stats. At the end of the day nothing compares to being able to actually see the lights working. Below is a pic of our single row, 20" light bar.
This is the 20" twin row
In the second picture I don't even have my high beams on, it's just the light bar.
Offroad Boss light bars can now be viewed in TJM Coopers plains, Underwood, or Nerang, or come see us at Offroad Boss (I'm always here late, happy to give a night time demo).
Apologies for the thread high jack,
Cheers,
Rob

Re: LED Light bars
I have a 40 led light bar off britelight auto parts (eBay) and its a excellent unit, had it compared to same size rigid industries one and it was very similiar in light output.
This one has been on truck for 8 months and have been very happy with it considering its a cheaper brand.
Each to their own but I wasn't spending $800-1000 for a similiar product from snake racing when I paid bit over 300 for this one.
It has a lexen lense, good water rating, spot/spread, 4 solid feet with rubber vibration dampening, stats look very similiar to expensive ones (like what's said above). I'm happy

Re: LED Light bars
I have a rigid 30", see my topic in auto elec if you want. I rate them and wouldn't have anything else but I like the softer light and the spread as opposed to the reflective spot from say HID set up in a traditional light
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

I have a daul row sesp light bar and paid 425 and its bloody awesome. So bright and good price I justify paying those huge prices some companies ask for
Re: LED Light bars
i got a 20" dual row on the front of my lux. cost me $400 and works a treat offroad as most things are slowish. i now have 3 HID rallye 4000s on my rollbar and work a treat together as the HID do distance and the lightbar gves good spread.
just purched a 18 LED 640mm GREAT WHITE LED LIGHTBAR for My Quad Yet To Use It Tho So Cant Comment On That But cvost me roughly $550

Re: LED Light bars
For the record, I have a pair of 100w halogens (Roo lights), a pair of HIDs (self modified Cibie Super Oscars) and a 44 inch LED light bar, bought off a member on here.
Something to remember when looking at pictures of light bar outputs is, if it is a shot amongst trees, like those above, then the output looks impressive- regardless of brand- light everywhere, as the light throws 360 degrees.
If the shot is taken with nothing to light up- open road- then the output looks far less impressive.

The truck I drive has a Narva 20'' bar on it and I'm more that happy with the performance of it. The tricky part is positioning the beam for maximum performance.

Re: LED Light bars
Thats exactly right. Also anyone can make lights look good with a SLR camera. I'm seen first hand most of the high end light bars and I'm still yet to see one that will go for more then 300 metres. Even those pictures above don't look to be any further then 300 metres. That looks like about 200 metres max as you don't usually see telegraph poles 500 metres apart do you and there's on one in the pics.BundyRumandCoke wrote:For the record, I have a pair of 100w halogens (Roo lights), a pair of HIDs (self modified Cibie Super Oscars) and a 44 inch LED light bar, bought off a member on here.

I'm not saying there not good light bars but those pics don't prove to me that those bars will go any further then others I've seen or owned. Like I said I'm no knocking them but even honest light suppliers with tell you 300 metres is about the max they are usable for. Also keep in mind 300 metres is more then enough but if for any reason you want distance HID is the only way to go.
I'm going to buy a 800 watt 4 row bar with 5 watt leds very shortly off one of my lighting suppliers. Even though this bar will probably crap over most other bars out there at the moment I'd still be surprised if it goes more then 500 metres and thats with spot in the middle and spread reflectors on the outside. It weighs 17 kgs without the wiring loom which is pretty big on its own. When I get it I'll post some pictures up.
Cheers Mick.

Lol, down at the Lowmead 3 car comp over the weekend, and my daughter commented on how a LED light bar would go on the front of her 08 Commodore. Bugger me if she didnt win one in the multi draw, so now I have to work out how to mount it behind the lower grill, which is where it is going for stelth.

Re: LED Light bars
It wont be as effective, sure, but with no frontal protection on the Commodore, and in no way am I going to blank out the centre section of the LED bar, as per QLD DOTs stupid regulations, but anything extra shining out the front has to be a bonus. My second option might be under the numberplate, but in front of the grill. The trouble is, the front of the Commodore is all plastic, and there is a bit of weight there in the bar.
I dont need another light bar on the front of the Nissan, and the other daughters Mazda has a pair of HID Lightforces on it.

oh well better give it to me then
i think the front bar will carry the weight of the LED bar alright, they arent super heavy.
they put up with the wind at 100kph and thats gotta put way more force on it than a led bar.
