I'm probley going about this wrong but am coiling a hilux and have all the links and brackets made and tacked in place but am thinking the pinion angle is wrong .

I have read that I need to have the output flange and the pinion parrallel but at the moment the engine and trans. are not fitted (won't be till some funds appear from somewhere) Before I burn the brackets in what should I set the pinion angle to ? Should I make it square and then get adjustable upper arms to fine tune ?

What motor/box are going in? Do you know if you're likely to have firewall or tunnel clearance issues?

I think setting it horizontal for the moment and leaving or building in some adjustment so you can tweak to suit the transfer output if you need to.

Have a 1UZ and auto but am thinking I might lose the auto from the 1UZ and go a a442 and transfer as it will fix a couple of things .

The angle\s depend on the type of drivshafts you are using.
If you are sticking with conventional single uni each end shaft the flanges need to be parallel for the shaft to phase properly.
If your using a double carden joint ( think t/case end on the front shaft of a hilux ) then the pinion needs to be pointed directly at the t/case .

I pointed mine at the case but it never seen high speeds.

Point it at the case if double cardon

Make it parallel if normal uni's




Find someone with a lux to get some angles.

Or, tack brackets till you get the case in.

Adjustable links will help with fine tuning

Thanks for the replies guy's ... it's going to be a carpark crawler so the engineer wanted to see the links and brackets tacked together before it was welded off . So after he's been I was hoping to weld it all off, get it rolling, cycle the suspension etc. to work out the shock mounts ........Then concentrate on the engine & trans.

Maybe I should get the engine in before making everything permanant . Just when I thought I knew what I was doing :roll:
