tips on my new triton

Post by LEMONPILOT »

...Well its new to me...
Hi! Just baught a 2004 glx triton with a v6 not a TD :( because IM A TIGHTARSE AND IT WAS CHEAP. There I said it!

Anywho, before that I had a little zook sierra. Lifted, big muddies ect ect great fun but it was a nightmare because the engine swap the guy before me did was a dodgey back yard job. So I cut my losses and sold it and here we are with a triton in the garage. I like it so far it seems pretty gutsy (although it has the turning circle of an obese substitute teacher) Havent tried it in 4x4 yet.

Its stock and will be used for outback adventures (hunting, camping and hopefully, occasionaly pinching my dads boat) and driving to and from the mine I work at every 2 weeks. (about a 600k bitumen road drive) So without breaking the bank I want to set it up for some basic outback shenanegans. Obviously getting some beefy tyres for it and maybe a snorkel, nudge bar, floodies, CB and if its easy enough a dual battery set up. A long range tank would be nice but i think thats getting a bit carried away for an old lemon. The zook used to climb ABSOLUTLEY ANYTHING so in that sense I miss it but cant exactly throw dirtbikes or babyseats in the back of those things. So I assume theres a few people on here who know their stuff and I would love some friendly advice on upgrades and mods?? I hear liftkits make fuel consumption worse and thats not something this thing has to spare. The clearance doesnt look too bad stock. (famous last words as I gracefully seasaw too and fro on a peak in the middle of Butt F nowhere) Also wondering if anybody knows a rough price to get the thing swapped to turb diesel. Its got 260 000 K's on the clock so cant be too far away. Got it for 7k if your wondering.

Going to give it a nice juicy service when I get the time. Oil, plugs, filters, coolant flush and whatever else I can think of. I hear lockers for the front are a good upgrade but I dont even know how they work. Its got the old school 'get out and manualy lock the hubs' setup but im used to that from the zook.

Maybe shoot off a quick list of the top 5 priority upgrades so I can see what the consensus is.

And keep in mind 'the tension of my chockolate starfish'
(Im a tightarse)

CHEERS GUYS!

I see no-one bit on this thread...

Lets see, the timing belt isn't far from being due to be done and get the water pump done at the same time, it's behind and driven by the timing belt...

Lifts can be a PITA with the torsion bar setup, not much room on some vehicles for adjustment of the upper control arm - mine only had about half a degree of shims in there before the lift and I ended up having to drop the front to align the wheels properly...

Bigger rubber will kill the already shithouse economy...

Turn in the steering stops near the cv joints to improve the turning circle...

Get some better seats...
I wish my lawn was EMO, then it would cut itself...
