Need more POWER from a 1997 S1 tdi 5 speed Disco

Post by 1boofa1 »

Hi Outerlimits, I LOVE this site, its so good being able to get usable advice so quickly & easily :) My other post has been great, people steering me in the right direction so can I get some more advice on another topic? I have a 1997 S1 Disco( tdi & 5 speed) it is completely stock atm, it has 286k put a full service history & I know its done no hard work at all, never been offroad etc. It was a 1 owner company car & I know the people who had it. So It needs MORE power, Im not going to do engine conversions, or anything radical. I liked the tdi better than the V8 for realiability reasons, i was told many times how strong the 4cyl tdi is- how beefy the 5 speed & transfer case is so i went on that advice & Im happy- gonna have GR8 times in the "junkyard dog" :) I want bolt on mods only, Please help- 1boofa1 :)

Talk to Ben at APT Fabrications in Brisbane. He has done a a lot of R&D into 300Tdi engines. He can supply upgraded (revised matrix) intercoolers mandral bend straight through exhausts, upgraded turbos and custom snorkels. Ben can also adjust the fuel pump to suit the upgrades.

Then your 300Tdi will have vast improvement over stock.

Cheers

Theres a 300tdi example on here:

You can get more power without spending any money.

First though you need to install an EGT guage. Many of us have fitted these:
http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_ ... ex&cPath=5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With the EGT installed, and a big hill, you can tune the pump yourself. The max pre turbo EGT you want to see is 750oC.

Then read up on how to tune the IP:
http://www.google.com.au/url?q=http://w ... fPQGwgsmmA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Make sure your timing belt has been changed as needed. Also, the head gasket normally needs replacement at 250k km. So if yours has not yet been changed, it is only a matter of time.

A bigger intercooler is not really needed unless you fit an upgraded turbo.

make sure the cooling system is 100%....keep on top on valve clearence adjustments. BTW, its a Tdi, there is only so much reliable power you can get from them
