Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Hey guys im a long time forum stalker and small time poster. I have bought a 92 TD42 coil cab ute for a bargain and am in the process of buying bits and pieces as funds become available. So far the car is sitting stock in the garage but parts I’ll be pulling off the last wagon include
85% reduction gears
Front and rear ARB air lockers
Removable winch
Everything else I think I can do better on the ute hopefully.
Parts ive already bought that are sitting next to the ute
Laminated front GU housing
Rear GU housing which will be laminated also
5x40” stickey Trepadore tyres mounted on steel pro comp rims with Staun internal beadlocks
Superflex arms
4.6 diff gears
Future parts
Chromolly GU CV’s and axles
Chromolly tie rod and drag link
Adjustable panhards
5” lift in the front with 3” lift in the rear with long arm lowers (+300mm)
Amada extreme shocks all round to suit (mate has them and they seem pretty good?)
GT2860rs turbo with no fuel pump upgrades
Plenty of barwork
PRP seats
Would like to get away without doing hydro assist but it’s on the cards
Anything else i would need to consider excluding body chopping? Do you think the 4.6's and turbo with the transfer gears will be ok for 40's? Thats really my main worry at this stage. Cheers

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Ok, ill drop in and have a look, cheers. Whats wrong with the gu diff? Alternatives that arnt going to cost more than the car?
With the billet hubs, does the one piece outer ring on the standard manual lock hubs work just as well?

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
A removable winch? HUH? Why?
My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.
Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
'Cos i was a tight ass and instead of having 2 i only need one, keeps it out of river crossings and better approach angle.

Nothing wrong but there are much better options. There not that expensive. Look at Buds Customs. He does dana60 utters with what ever centre you want. I run D60/H233b. Seriously not that expensive!
The billet hubs replace the factory outer and use factory internals.

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
I have just sent him an email about it. See how we go
Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
He seems like a top bloke to deal with, if I lived up that way he would be doing my work, but it is a fair bit more than what I was thinking. I can blow 7 full priced chromolly CV's before i would pay for the diff. I rang Cal Offroad and they said they would not cover full cost of a blown chromo CV if it was abused but would knock a fair bit off the price. Mainly because I already have the GU diff here ill go that way. Thanks for the input though.
Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Don't waste your time on cal crap. Call bolsys or mick garner and get the longfield conversion.

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Got a minute to explain why?
Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
I would be guessing that the Grade of the material may be higher with the longs than the Calsmoto_pilot wrote:Got a minute to explain why?
and the design may be different which may lead to higher strength
Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Plus their warranty is way better.brando4x4 wrote:I would be guessing that the Grade of the material may be higher with the longs than the Calsmoto_pilot wrote:Got a minute to explain why?

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
Thanks for the chat WICKED, wish i could get free money haha.
At this stage for myself I think the conversion with Bolsys does sound the goods joshy, when the cars ready to smash the tracks ill get the kit to take full advantage of the 12 month warranty he offers on the axles and the warranty on the Longfields. If I wreck an axle or two in that time ill start gathering funds for the dana60 outers like WICKED suggested.
Thanks for the replies so far fellas

With the conversion the parts we supply are Hy Tuf axles which are custom made to suit GU inners and 80 series Longfield Cv's. Also supplied Is an adaptor so the cv will bolt into your GU housing, and we also supply either drive flanges for permanent 4wd (comp truck) or an adapter gear to suit free wheeling hubs.
You only need to purchase the 80 series Cv's from Longfield and it will all bolt into your existing housing.
Longfield cv joints come with a lifetime replacement warranty and we also offer 12 month replacement warranty on our axles if bought for retail price otherwise you can purchase them cheaper without warranty.

Re: Improve my plans for the old TD42 ute
That is great news, no need to get a custom housing and run 80series hubs and outers. Not available for gq's I'm guessin ?moto_pilot wrote:This is part of the email
