Unfortunately, I don't think Team DGR will be this event. Aust Day weekend is already booked out for me. It's a bugger though as it sounds like it will be a great weekend with LOTS of driving! It'll be interesting to see how many are still running by the end of play.

RUMBLE RULES
EVENT FORMAT
The event will consist of a qualifying stage and three timed stages. The start order for the qualifying stage will be the order in which fully paid entries are received by the event organiser. The qualifying stage will be used to obtain a start order for the first stage. The vehicles will then be started at equal time intervals between cars . A vehicle that has a DNF on the qualifying stage will have the car number drawn from a hat with other cars that had a DNF in qualifying to obtain their start order at the rear of the field. The start order for the second stage will be in the order of the fastest times from the first stage will start first on the second stage and so on. A car that has a DNF on any stage will have their car number drawn from a hat to give a start order at the rear of the field for each stage following the stage on which the DNF occurred. If a vehicle is not ready to compete at its allotted time it may be moved to a later start time towards the rear of the field.
To win the event a vehicle must complete all three timed stages without a DNF, The vehicle with the fastest overall time for the three stages added together after penalty times have been added will be deemed the winner.
There is only one vehicle class OUTLAW CLASS tyre size and vehicle specs unlimited
RULES
1. Each team will consist of a driver and navigator, single seat vehicles are still required to have a navigator. Both the driver and navigator are required to have a current drivers licence. The swapping between driver and navigator is permitted provided all other rules are met. The replacement of a team member is permitted once and once only (ie once swapped you can’t swap back for the entire event). An official must be notified that this change is going to occur or a penalty will be incurred. The possible substitute team member must be named on the original entry form and must meet all other event criteria. Any team found to have a team member not named on the original entry form will be disqualified from the event unless written approval for the substitution is obtained from the event manager.
2. It is prohibited to consume or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while competing in THE RUMBLE ON THE ROCKS. Breath tests may be carried out at random and the return of a positive reading will mean immediate disqualification from the event
3. Both driver and navigator are required to wear a AS1698 approved helmet at all times whilst on a stage. A full face helmet is required with visor, goggles or safety glasses unless the vehicle has a windscreen fitted.
4. The vehicle occupants are not permitted to have any limbs or body parts outside a moving vehicle at any time.

7. There will be a designated area for vehicle repairs when required after a stage. All work is to be carried out in this area or a time penalty will occur. If a vehicle cannot get to the designated area due to breakages arrangements need to be made with the event manager before any repairs are carried out.
8. Vehicle refuelling will not be permitted while competing on a stage, and must be carried out in a safe and responsible manner in an area away from spectators.

13. The course will be bunted where necessary and all vehicles must remain four wheels inside the course, a time penalty will occur
14. Any team found to be cheating, deliberately interfering with another team or in any other manner showing unsportsman like behaviour will be penalised or disqualified from the event, this will be at the discretion of the event manager.

the quallifying stage will be a short run of approx 5 - 10 minutes. The saturday stage will most likely be cals, the night stage a new section. and the sunday stage the lower main. they are not laps it is from start to finish, the longest stage will have a DNF time of possibly six hours.

What's the reason for full face, in the speed / faster event I understand with rocks flying and dust. But in crawling situation where vision is required I don't see full face visor being a safer option.
Please explain

Full face OR goggles etc is more then enough.
This alone is enough for me to not compete as I am not buying a new helmet for 1 event.
I like doing comps, have done for about 11 years now but I refuse to spend money on 1 off items just to do them.

Perspex is useless looking into the sun & Lexan is too dear, not to mention if it got dirty & vision impaired without windscreen wipers. Think a helmet would be cheaper !!rocklux wrote:Can't you put a perspecs windscreen on your buggy?
I see no sense in me having to wear a full face helmet when I won't be in the buggy at all, suit I am fine with though.

Googles can be had for well under $100 ATM.
If you want too look at mountain bike sites like torrperdo7, chain reaction cycles, etc they might have specials on.

Ben, they want Full face helmets which would mean Dave would need to buy one & he isn't interested in buying a helmet for just one comp.
I have MX helmets, goggles, etc. but the helmets I have may not fit but we will see when he gets back.
But both Dave & I agree that it isn't necessary having a full face. Especially me being a Spotter for single seater.

Just listing a cheap option in googles as I know Dave doesn't have any. The site I linked sells helmets too.
I wasn't sure if he had a full face but seeing as he has competed the last year at tough tracks thought it possible.

Tough tracks allow open helmets but some form of eye protection must be worn (and checked before start) I feel that sufficient for crawling, but its not my comp.
Lexan is fair priced but still shitty to look thru at the best of times.

Re: RUMBLE ON THE ROCKS rules are up
If a spotter is not going to get into a car at all ( ie single seat buggy )then an open face helmet that meets safety standards as per rules with goggles or safety glasses will be fine, a driver without a windscreen will need a full face helmet as per rules. ( I dont believe that this is the only event that has these rules, (sorry if im wrong but if you do this event twice then you wont be buying a helmet for just one race and im sure that you could borrow one for a weekend if you really want to compete.) And yes lexan is fine for a windscreen as long as it provides sufficcient occupant protection.

Re: RUMBLE ON THE ROCKS rules are up
My current helmet is a motor bike helmet. It fully covers down both sides of my face. With my googles on the only part of my face not covered is my mouth and chin. If Steve isn't happy with this then I will not compete, easy done.
I never bought my buggy just for doing comps, I bought it to social wheel in. If it fits in to a comps rules and I don have to spend more money to enter then I'll compete. One of the reasons I stopped competing years ago was because I got sick of having to spend money on new things for every new comp that came around.
No skin off my back these days if I don't compete, saves hundreds of dollars everytime I don't do a comp and to be honest I can't afford to do anymore comps then the 3 tough tracks rounds.

I totally understand your position and respect you decision not to compete. I to only do comps that I already comply with , unfortunately that is not many of the ones that interest me these days. I am a firm believer that competitions are something you should enter for enjoyment foremost , after all there are no sheep stations up for grabs in our sport. That being said all competitions have rules they are there for a reason and that is safety and this has to Come first.
