a442f Transmission

Post by 76 Tourer »

I have sourced an a422f trans. to put behind my 1UZ and was wondering if anyone knew a way to make them a hydro g/box rather than running an aftermarket trans ECU. A valve body mod or similar ? I haven't touched an auto since trade school twenty cough cough something years ago, so am looking forward to learning about it .

I searched high and low to get an earlier box but to no avail they appear as rare as hens teeth.

Don't think it can be done. When I converted mine to auto (A442F electronic) I ran the compu-shift trans computer and it works a treat. Wholesale Auto sells them for a pretty penny :)

Obviously feels strongly enough about the issue to loose a bit of business to it

Didn't see any tin foil hats for sale but....

ICE on this forum has a a442 behind a 1uz and he has it fully manualised he may be able to help you out. I will be looking at this more later on as well because I have a hilux 1uz and a442 just sitting there. Have to finish the ls1 80 first though.

Thinking on the ideas I took from the above web site and looking at the 2 transmissions side by side . Is there any reason anyone can foresee why that the 1UZ ECU can't tell the a442 what to do ?

Thinking that both have a converter lock-up and 2 soleniods to switch 4 gears, the ECU is programmed to the engine for shift points and converter lock-up.

Just need a wiring diagram for a 1FZ with auto to work out what wire switches what .

I think from memory I found a diagram that gave me enough wires to work out what most the wires do. When I get home hopefully by Sunday at the latest water depending I will have a look and let you know.
