Hi all. I need some schooling on cv joints in my rangie. it has a maxi drive locka in the front with maxi drive axels to the cv. the cv is 23 spline in (i think) and 10 spline out to the stubs. is this a after market cv or a standard unit ? is having the 10 spline stubs the weak link so that it dont blow cvs or diffs and so that its a quick and easy fix for out in the bush. the reason i ask is that on the weekend i blew a cv to bits and was wondering what is the better path to go down when replacing it to making it stronger and where mite the best place be to source parts ?

those 2 peice RR cvs are stock. 23 spline input and then a little stub shaft that is 10spline coming out of the cv. If you still have the origianl black rounded driveflange that is one peice with the stub, these are definitely original. If you have a gold coloured CAD plated drive flange then you most probably have a stock cv with aftermarket maxidrive stub shaft.
noraml stock stub shafts usually break before the cv (bell, cage etc) but not always. You can no longer buy genuine GKN RR cvs, you can only get cheap aftermarket, or KAM in the UK make some HD cromo replacements. You can also go away from the 2 peice cv and get an aftermarket 1 peice cv that will work with some bits and pieces. Ashcroft in the UK would be the pic for this. Sort out what you have (pics help) and maybe contact them for help.
Maxidrive alxe shafts, now Hi-Tough Engineering still make the axle shafts and are located on the Gold Coast at Citylink estate (Rycroft Street)

You can do all of that ^^^^^^^^^ and get really good at pulling diffs apart.
Or you can save up, get Patrol or 80/100 series diffs, swap them under and never worry about breaking CVs on 33/35s again.

Cheers for the info uninformed,very helpfull. Yes my future plans are patrol front and 80 rear as the vehicle is my winch challenge truck. Just seems a shame to have to pull them out and start all over again with lockers and bracing and rims etc. oh well least it will be better in the long run. Any one got any diffs laying around

Also can any one tell me if there is ment to be a spacer on the axel between the cv and housing on a maxi drive axel ? I see in the work shop manual it shows one and in this old standard Diff i have laying around it has one. I'm wondering if there should be one to stop the axel going all the way into the cv and limiting its turning movement.

Yes there should be one on the maxi drive axle aswell if not give Barry a call at hi-tough engineering he will have them.
