Wiring for a newbie

Hey guys and girls...

Does anyone know of a good website or app
for wiring diagrams and hints and tips eg wire size for dual batt lights fridge ect got a bit of wiring to do on my 2012 fj and dont want to do the dodge have a small know on the basic but really want everything to work well...

Have a look in the back of the Jaycar or Dick Smith catalogues - Its a good start.
They may be available online.

i run 6mm for the fridge and lights.
ive updated the lights and now run leds.........awesome!!
low amp draw and super bright, yet to replace the main fluro.. utilux..
boat bias are great to deal with and well priced, great lights too.

with the dual battery, if the second battery is further away run a thicker cable.

ive run the matson kit in mine and mates car.
very easy to fit, just upgrade the screws into the firewall, to stainless, they bite harder and hold better.
avoid autobarn on the kit.. WAY OVERPRICED....like a 100 just on the kit.
do the ring around, usualy the local auto shop will be better priced than autobarn or repco.
use good quality fuses waterproof, and buy some silicon spray, and spray the inside of the fuses, that helps with corrosion.

support your local auto shop they will be cheaper than repco, autobarn, and better service, just make sure you get everything as they are open less than the other two, and get caught out on sunday putting stuff in.

get good quality thick round washer looking terminals, they will handle the heat better and not warp.

its easy stuff to do..
only relays and stuff is the hard part like with driving lights, but theirs enough threads on here, to do it yourself.

nothing better than working on your car, and wiring up lights, and to see it work, with switches involved awwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeee

i only have old trucks so can't help you on a brand of dual battery system for your new hilux wagon, however for cable size between batteries, bigger is better especially if the aux battery is in the back. i have a cable size table i can try and dig out of the mess if you really get stuck. otherwise how well do you know your local auto sparky?

as for the fridge, i run at least 8mm2 on my different set up across 3cars from the aux battery.

as for LED lights, they take f@@@ all power so depending how many you've running off the the one feed would depend on ther feed wire size.

that's a bit 'blown budget' spec but it works for me - but as i said i have old utes of the electronics aren't as 'important' as on new shopping trolleys
