Re: Winch bar issues
what the hell you hit ?
a milo midget ?
dont think arb will come to the party on that one..
definatly worth a try..
if you cant get anywhere with the local shop where you bought it..
take it up with head office..
had some success with bad service, and product issues, ie compressor melting the terminals on the old unit and current unit as well.
no i dont have the twin setup....... yet
if no luck should be an easy fix, 3mm should be fine, just throw a fold on the botton 25mm, or use 25b 5flat bar, and stiffen it up...........stifler!! ha ha
thats no good on the bar..

Re: Winch bar issues
I didn't hit anything. The winch pulled threw the bar. I know that for a fact cause as I was winching all of a sudden I got sparks. Cause the winch has shifted 1-2" forward and stretched the front and pulled the fairlead forward

Re: Winch bar issues
Did you fit the winchbar/winch/fairlead yourself? Not doubting your abilities here but I imagine the local shop would kick up a stink if you did it yourself. If they did it then providing you aren't dealing with idiots you should be able to get a good resolve from this

I know what your saying. I'm not pissed and upset at anyone. I don't no the age of the bar it was on the car when I bought it 18 months ago. I was just curious if anyone had seen it befor? Ill throw another photo up Abd mayb that might explain more

Re: Winch bar issues
looks like previous owner modded bar a little, fairly confident arb dont do tube wings(could be wrong). Winch not directly mounted to chassis? Shit happens, buy a winch cradle off ebay and touch up bar with a sledgie, problem fixed.

i made the tube wings after i klipped a tree and bent the original wing.stilivn wrote:looks like previous owner modded bar a little, fairly confident arb dont do tube wings(could be wrong). yer the winch mounts to the front. yes like i said i m not upset or not pissed about it shit happens. ARB said bar was only designed for a 9500 in the first place

Re: Winch bar issues
Regardless of the outcome, i rather rate that bar! Looks good with the fusion of the ARB centre and the wings!

i dont rate it if its bendingrockcrawler31 wrote:Regardless of the outcome, i rather rate that bar! Looks good with the fusion of the ARB centre and the wings!
does look alright, just need addressing where its been modified badly..
and you realy cant stuff up an install on the winch, 4 bolts, two into the fairlead..
where its got to go...... is where it goes..
only the drum brake, that usualy needs rotating.. soo you can reach it from the top.
ive modified mine, in the centre i went up, not enough, but had to cut the ends where the winch was and the bar has been fine.
whether its a 9000pd or a 12000pd, the forces are the same, its the weights on the front springs, and whether you can actualy fit the larger bar into the chassis you have and the space within the bullbar..
the extra 10kg for the winch is thrown out the window when your trying to winch a 2tonne hilux, stuck in mud, more like 3 to 4 tonne..
soo the bar needs to be right .....before any winching to begin with..

if you modify a bullbar you have nothing to stand on..Chook91 wrote:Did you fit the winchbar/winch/fairlead yourself? its been highly modified.
and your on your own, but thankfully youve got a welder at home, and a quick day to rip it off and strengthen it up.
it looks like its had some of the underside been cut..
as in a seperate cradle is missing holding the winch, otherwise why have those holes for the fairlead and brake handle..
skegbug.. threw up a pic the other day...
cradle mounts to the chassis.. maybe the winch meant to be in a cradle ?
edit..
i have the same setup in the middle.. no slots or hole for handle.
thats is your weak point
their should be no cutting of holes inderneath.. that fold acts as a brace and gusset..
its got nothing now.

Cheers mate I liked the look to and that pipe is 40nb with 3.2 wall thickness went threw most things
Every ARB winch bar for this model Hilux I have seen have them holes.CRUZAAMAD wrote:if you modify a bullbar you have nothing to stand on..Chook91 wrote:Did you fit the winchbar/winch/fairlead yourself? Only mod I did was the tube wings
There is no cradle mount for the chassis just s bracket that's mounts the bar to the chassis.

Re: Winch bar issues
The issue might be that the winch is WAY over sized for your car and bar. If you make the bar stronger you will only be pushing more strain onto the chasis, and i know i'd rather have the bar bend before the chasis bends.
Double line pulls will also help for future winching, spreading the load to a rated recovery point will prevent this from happening.

Re: Winch bar issues
Its not the size of the winch that is the issue here...outbackarmour wrote:The issue might be that the winch is WAY over sized for your car and bar. If you make the bar stronger you will only be pushing more strain onto the chasis, and i know i'd rather have the bar bend before the chasis bends.

Its the tension on the bar...
the easiest way to sort it out is to get a shovel out and dig a bit and a double line pull...
The bar should not have bent like that though
Re: Winch bar issues
I've seen that a heap of times. Really is a weak part of their (and other) bars. Some 3mm 35x65 rhs will sort that!

yeh its only 3 mm plate with 2 x 3mm plates where tghe winch bolts. so it just bent the 3mm plate which is weak as.bru21 wrote:I've seen that a heap of times. Really is a weak part of their (and other) bars. Some 3mm 35x65 rhs will sort that!

Re: Winch bar issues
i had a similar thing happen on my ARB highmount GQ bar, cracked out from the bolt holes and pulled forward an inch on the housing side
all i did was belted it straight, cut some 6mm plate the same shape and welded it in behind. the 3mm plate just isnt thick enough IMHO

Re: Winch bar issues
Yer as you can see my bar was bent further then I'd like. Would never have felt safe with it again
