HELP- 1992 80 Series Auto 4.0 ltr EFI
Hi all, I am back in the 4WD scene after some 5 years. I am looking at buying a 1992 80 Series Landcruiser with 4.0 litre engine EFI and auto box.
It has 250,000 kms on clock and in mint condition.
QUESTION: What are your opinions on this engine/auto model?
What should I be looking for?
is $5500 too cheap??
Does look good and no rust, new tyres, and power steering pump.
Your thoughts boys and girls.......................

25l to 100ks and a bit underpowered.
Price is right.

Geez thanks mate. That's serious fuel burning there! Is that the worse end of the scale?? Is there anyway of improving economy if I bought it?SCANAS wrote:25l to 100ks and a bit underpowered.

it will have the old 3f injected motor in it, you should drive one with the newer 1fz motor in it before you buy

Yeah I have driven them (1FZ) 4.5 Ltr and the diesels too. Its not such a bad engine though right? I have been looking for a while and my budget was limited (as usual) and I will not be tuff trucking or anything. Do it up a bit and tow my boat (1.2 tonne) and take the family camping. No gut busting work.
About 18 kms to work each way. I wish I could get a 4.5 motor if they were in as good condition as this. Will have a deep think about it.
Cheers

You can pick up a 1fz for 7-10k these days, i'd seriously consider going that way if I were you.
The 3f is very underwhelming

look around i paid very little for a 1fz gxl which became a chassis donation for my Tuff truck in the end... it seriously was way to good to wreck

Dont even bother with the 3F, gutless and thirsty especially with the auto. Go the 1FZE models. Should be able to get one in your price range, just need to look around abit.

Re: HELP- 1992 80 Series Auto 4.0 ltr EFI
Well boys, bit the bullet and bought the 3FE auto. Drove it back from Newcastle yesterday in the flooding rain. She drove like a dream through all the rain etc. Sat on 120 km/h no sweat. the rig is original as. 4.0 ltr EFI. I was amazed at its speed and smoothness. No rust. Few small dents here and there (dent removers easy).
Clean as a whistle underneath and inside. The guy gave me heaps of spares (whole set of Sunraysia wheels and tyres) ARB air compressor and acc. Toyota canvas seat covers front and back (blue), rear kids seats, and few other goodies. Only 250,000 kms.
QUESTIONS:
Only thing I feel is when I take off or stop there is a clunk in the rear. Like a bit of slack. What could that be, uni joint or what do you think? (Diff)?
What is a good oil for this engine with the kms?
Is E10 okay to use?Pics up soon.
Cheers lads. I'm happy with the old gal.....

The clunk is normal in my opinion, all AWD cruisers do it.

Don't suppose you ended up with the drum brake 80 series rear end laying around cluttering up the place? Just that I'm chasing one...Ice wrote:look around i paid very little for a 1fz gxl which became a chassis donation for my Tuff truck in the end... it seriously was way to good to wreck
