Tube bending

Can anybody point me in the right direction, I'm looking for some reading material regarding bending tube .

I'm looking for maybe a guide to the mathmatics behind the bending eg: how much to allow for a bend, gains, losses etc.

Look on Pirate4x4 or if you got the coin buy bend tech software.

gains and losses are all relevant to your bender and in particular the die radius, so there is no real simple answer.

As said by the others gains and losses are all dependent on the setup and even small things like the grade and quality of the steel.
The easiest way to see is to just bend it to the angle you want and check the lengths and radius's of the bends
this is a formula for working out the arc length of the bend to detirmine how much steel you will need for each bend



EDIT:

The radius will be from the centre point/pin on your die to the centre line of the tube and the angle is the angle you want to bend

Look on the JD2 site. Their bender manuals have plenty of info.
I never use maths as I am anal and would rather get it 100% right.
It's better to bend a bit of tube as a reference and use it to work out the lengths as you bend.

I agree 100% but the maths is a good guideline for a ruff estimate for each bend as it doesn't take into account the shrinking and stretching of the metals you are bending. If you have the spare tube do a few test bends to find out how much tube is needed for each bend as that is the most accurate way to do it
