side awning hanging past the windscreen

Post by rogantriton »

Hey guys. Has anyone got a side awning on their vehicle that hangs out past the windscreen?

I'm looking at putting one on my ute but I don't want it to hang over the tray but to accomplish this it will hang past the top of the windscreen about half a meter.

Has anyone that has done this had any problems with it?

Cheers, Tom

I'd be more worried about how far it overhangs from the last mounting point.
Depending on what sort of driving you do, watch for it getting caught on trees and overhanging rocks etc. At least if it overhangs the windscreen, you'll be able to keep an eye on it.

If long enough carry it under the tray then have mounts ready on the roof for when you wanna use it.

Madness in my opionion if your doing any bush work. Its just a matter of time till its ripped off and bent by a tree or vine. I bought the 2M one instead of the 2.2 so it attached snuck and tight to the roof rack but its still not 100%. Ute scenarios obviously more tricky. Deluxe oztrail gazebos a good interum fix :D

I lost a deluxe gazebo off my roof last Fraser trip - tree fallen across after the storm nabbed it! 300kg tie downs snapped pretty good!
Those roll out ones are a pain as they are attached to the car - and need to be lifted when the woman need the toilet, or the tide comes in.
Deluxe for the win!

It really does depend on what type of driving your intending to do. Touring, its not a problem. Mine probably protrudes a 1/2 metre in front of the windscreen. But I take my awning and roof top camper off between trips. If your worried, although it might not be legal, would be to run a scrub wire from your bulbar to the front of the awning. It would stop all the smaller stuff from getting caught.

Thanks for the advise guys. I mostly do just touring. I think I'll just sit the awning up there and see how it looks if it sticks out too far ill just shift it back a bit.
