Now I know everyone gonna say 4.2 patrol etc

100 series v8 petrol. 16l per hundred isn't bad when you look at how cheap they are!
Don't touch the 6 cyl, they use 25l/100

The late 80's were 3500. Thats why they sell for more than the early ones. Can get a decent 80 TD (make sure its a 96) for aroudn 20-25k

A 100 series TD is still up around 40k

A 105 HZ with a turbo can be found for around 20-25k but you need to be on top of the history and maintenance.

a 100 Series V8 can be found from 25k but they do drink when towing (ask me how i know that) For 30k get one on injected gas (DONT get the mixer system type)

there are a couple of GVM upgrades aroudn for a patrol, it might be cheaper to upgrade yours and slip a manual box in it.
a LOT of stuffing around but might be worth it.

Folks just sold theirs for 23k it had less than 100k on it.
Fair bit of beach use, well washed after use though.

They are a nice truck and I seriously looked at keeping it rather than buying the 76.
The manual was shit house though (like most toyotas) and sounded like something serious was going on when you changed to second.
We took it back several times under warranty, it had the clutch replaced twice, throw out bearings replaced etc., different oils tried etc. They never got to the bottom of it.

I would go 5 speed auto for sure.
There are about 5 in our group and they are simply awesome.
