Did you really mean HP in the rear like your topic says?
Or is that a typo?

didnt know you could get reverse cut gears for a high pinion to run on the right side in the rear ? i thought that they are reverse cut to run on the correct side when installed in the front ?

A high pinion centre gears are reverse cut.

Ok so here is what I know

A standard solid axle hilux are low pinion centres front and rear, the rear will be stronger then the front because of the side the gears drive on. Effectively in the rear the gears bight into each other and the front they try to ramp away from each other and makes them weaker.

A high pinion centre in the front is reverse cut so in a front application it is at its strongest same as a hilux rear as the gears bight into each other but when you put a high pinion centre in the rear they are the same as the solid axle front as the gears want to ramp away from each other.

So this is why people say 80/100/bundy high pinion centres are no good in the rear and these diffs arnt as good in reverse..

But the best of both worlds in a lux is a high pinion front and a low pinion rear as effectively they are driving (when forward) on the drive side of both gear sets not one on the drive side one on the coast side.

Does that make sence?

When 4wd'n most of the strength is needed in the rear, as most of the load in most situations will be on the rear.
I have seen people run high pinion rears but seriously its not worth the decrease in strength. If you are chasing higher clearance under rear tailshaft make a double Cardin rear shaft then you can point the rear diff pinion up at the transfer.

while all this is true about them being weaker, i have an 80s hp in the rear of my lux with an arb locker, most recently done comps with 35's and 37's and prior to that a lot of wheeling and 33's and about 70000km's on the road. only had it rebuilt once due to excessive backlash. if i were to do it again id be using a solid pinion spacer, only reason im not is im going all out comp truck so im going with a patrol diff and doing the high pinion conversion with that.
