Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 Alloy Wheel Pics up now!
Hi all,
Here is my EV build,
I have ordered a duel cab Iveco for my Expedition build, this is our prototype for our upcoming range of EV's.
The major difference we are aiming for - is to lower the entry level costings, and make these available to familys - at a similar price point as a landcruiser and caravan.
This will allow the user to tow a boat or trailer up to 3500kgs - great for keen fisherman, motocross familys, and the equine fraternity.
I will start posting pics when our first base arrives in the next few weeks.
As I currently own a 76 series landcruiser, there will be side by side test videos and other resources to come.
Cheers Bru

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Very similar,
RRP is roughly;
The single cab is $82k + On Roads (under 4k in QLD)
Dual cab is 88k + On Roads (Under 4k in QLD)
This is with the small tyre option - no speed limiter, no $900ea michelin 17.5" zxl's to replace!
Remembering they include 3 diff locks, cruise control, and 4 position transfer case as standard too - so value is similar when this is added to a L/C.
The main advantage is 1750kg load carrying - so it will be road legal, unlike a modified, touring Landcruiser that is usually overloaded and therefore Illegal.
e.g.;
76 Series GXL Kerb 2295kg, GVM 3060kg - Carrying ability = 765kg (less 5 x 63kg people (ADR Calc)) = 450kg, -130kg fuel = 320kg left for gear, water, roofrack, bullbars, winch, lights, jerry cans, food, drinks, recovery, trailer downforce, etc.
200 Series GX Kerb 2635kg, GVM 3350kg - Carrying ability = 715kg (less 5 x 63kg people (ADR Calc)) = 400kg - 93kg -45kg fuel = 262kg left for gear, water, roofrack, bullbars, winch, lights, jerry cans, food, drinks, recovery, trailer downforce, etc.
As for pricing, if anyone is in the market I can see what I can do - We have OEM Fleet set up.

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
It's hard to compare them to a cruiser on lockers thing as gxl cruisers come locked now.
The Iveco is over $10k dearer but like you mentioned the payload on the Iveco gives a world of options.
I got quoted around the $80k mark for one without a tray and am very interested to see some real time fuel consumption figures.
I think with the gear options available and you can chip them they'll be a good unit.

I like the idea of them and they do look cool.
But
This is comparing a car with a truck, the Iveco Is a cab over truck that drives like a truck and feels like a truck. Which is fine if you don't mind that.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it bru.

Thanks for the replies,
80k sounds good - it was years since i got a quote from a dealer - so I googled RRP's (I am not allowed contact with dealers, as we deal direct with Iveco)
I forgot the GXL is now locked (mine were a $2700 option), so it would be 10k more... but what price can you put on QLD legal 37's ha ha.
I am yet to drive one, but it couldn't possibly be worse than my 76 ha ha... here's hoping...
cheers Bru

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Those trucks drive better than a 70 series
And once you add all the crap and 'race car' suspension to even a 200 series, they drive like a truck too.
In my opinion light trucks in general drive better than 4wd passenger cars when loaded, because they are actually engineered to carry the weight.

Jeeze! I would love to know the wheel supplier - do you know the owner? Don't look like ridgelines? Could be factory splits painted black?
We are having custom alloys made, but they will be months away, as they are made overseas.

Ours is white, I wanted Graphite, but it would have been another 3 months and everybody I have talked to wants white!
Those rims seem to have lower positive offset - which I doubt would be legal due to track width increase being more than 50mm.
No one I have found can drill out blank wheels - as the positive offset too high for 4x4 blanks - the outer lip is flat with the face, and the larger PCD / weight loading is an issue. you need at last a 8.5" wheel with the 37's so that rules out F350 fronts. I can have them made i steel easily enough, but a 17x9 steel band in high weight loading is dear / not common + center welding, approval etc makes for a $400+ wheel at my prices. There are plenty of places that can punch out 16's but tyre options are more limited these days.
Hence why we are getting custom alloys cast.

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
If the tyres are under the guards I doubt anyone would question the width.
And what size tyres are you looking at? I would of said there are heaps of 16" options
I ran 37" muddys as road tyres on an 8" rim without issues

If its NB2 then VSB6 applies which has different requirements for wheel track.

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Thanks guys,
This is a prototype for our new range so I cannot 'wing' anything as far as legality goes. (as much as I like too ha ha)
After driving the smurf with a massive track increase, I want to avoid it - as it is terrible in the sand, as the wheels fight to squeeze into others narrower tracks.
Thanks for the tip MK - it will have to be NB1 unfortunately, as others will be driving it for demo purposes.
Cheers guys - calling above tyre place now.
Edit:
Called; they are Walker beadlocks, 40mm a side track increase.
Be great for off road use, but not for my purposes... :(

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Not that far positive, from what I can find.
Look at the ridgelines for an idea:
http://www.traveltrucks.com.au/accessor ... oad-wheels" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
From my research, I need +62mm positive offset to be spot on - for where I want the track.
By my calcs that would be 7 1/4" Backspace - the biggest Walker is 6".
That would leave 1 1/4" per side too high.
I know I am being anal, but I want to get everything right where possible.
When the truck arrives I can measure the rims and work our what will be legal, as so far I am relying on others.
Thanks anyways,
bru

What sized wheel? Raceline is doing a 17" that can get that amount of backspacing. Pretty cool looking wheel too:
Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
I looked at raceline - but didn't see that one. Wonder if it is available as a street lock?
Thanks Ben!
Edit: Just looked - they are SWEET! But $775 a wheel for a blank!!!

not sure about the street lock. They are a made in American forged wheel. I think you'll find that a good forged wheel will be in that price range. A good cast wheel will be around $350 - $400 these dasy (Walkers, Methods, Racelines)
Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Will be very interested to see what you do with it. Had a look at a single at a Camping show last week. My mate and I thought that even with the single cab the chassi might be a bit short to get a decent length body on it.
Just thinking that for a EV. I would like to get out of arm reach of my companion. Also in my opinion the bed has to be able to be permanatly setup. It cant have a dual purpose as a table or similar.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
What length body are you looking at bru ?
Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Thanks for the input.
I have designed the layout using the maximum length allowable - 60% of WB past rear axle.
I have permanent sleeping for 4 (one double and 2 singles) and a seat table that converts to a 5th / 6th (kids).
We have looked at a WB extension of roughly 8-900mm which will mean the same body can be used on both trucks.
I really want to give the vehicle a workout in standard form to assess if a longer WB will reduce the vehicles ability significantly.
I will post plans once I have redrawn them to actual dimensions (rather than scaled estimates taken off factory drawings).

Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Can I be nosey and ask why IVECO want to deal with you direct. Are you bringing in something that the dealers don't usually stock ie back chopped off to walk through into camper section or something. In my experience the factory can't be bothered until you start pumping some serious numbers or you are approved for second stage of manufacture.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
Re: Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 based Expedition Vehicle
Hi Scanas,
Our business model led us down that path.
It certainly took some work to deal direct however, we all agreed it would be the best option. It definitely isn't something that is handed out willy nilly!
Dealing direct allows for full factory engineering support - critical for product development to a standard that is above the norm.
We are in this for the long haul (hopefully) and have done every step with this in mind.
Cheers bru
